Forums - Gaming - Xbox One and PS4 Development is 8 to 10 Times Longer Than Last Gen, Says Capcom

this is just an excuse for when they put in the monetizes the social aspects of gaming..   ugh i can see it now,  Play with 2 extra friends for the low price of only 29.95!

http://www.worldsfactory.net/2014/01/10/capcom-all-games-will-be-social-future

"At Capcom, we define social games as means for facilitating communication among users and something in which game elements and monetization are involved. From this standpoint, we think that all games will be basically social in future.

In the next-generation home video game consoles, users are more and more closely linked to each other online, as in mobile devices and personal computers. I think games in the future will be required to be social in some way."

Capcom is so full of shit, the only way they can make next gen games is if they're exclusive to a specific console (Deep Down/Dead Rising 3) just so they get money from Sony or MS to make it. Which is why they said they "only need 1 next gen console".

Considering there are PC games out there that display better graphics and experiences than consoles. This is full of shit on capcom. Perhaps it takes longer because they need to incorporate tacked on online to every new damn game in this next generation.

so will it slow down the releases of "new version" of street fighter 4 by a factor of 8 to 10?

Well at least its not Square Enix that said this or else we'll never see Final Fantasy 15 ever!

Games don't really need to be that much better looking than they are now. If this is true, hopefully it forces a focus on tight, fun gameplay over graphics.

So I'm guessing this gen we are going to see alot more companies fall as they can't keep up with the cost of HD development.

Well I don't think they're going to be selling 8 to 10 times as many games by default. :P

Solution: Hire 8x10 times the staff

80 times the staff? Sounds legit.

People are fooling themselves if they say that graphics aren't important. Everybody likes pretty looking things. If games were to only be as good looking as past gen's graphics, I certainly would not understand the need to spend hundreds of dollars upgrading to new consoles. Why not keep using current gen then if graphics will stay the same? The new functionalities? What functionality is there that is worth spending at least 400€ for?

Besides, movies, TV shows, and technology are all getting better looking. Ultra HD, smartphones that can rival with last gen's graphics, etc. Game consoles will die if they do not get better looking.

Graphics certainly aren't everything, but unfortunately, our eyes are made to like good looks, and an increase in graphics is necessary for this new gen to survive a market where there is competition coming from everywhere (Smartphones, internet boxes, tablets, etc.).
