Forums - Gaming - Xbox One and PS4 Development is 8 to 10 Times Longer Than Last Gen, Says Capcom

Mark Cerny said the development time for games would be far less than the PS3 and PS2, back to the development times of the PSX. Aside from license purchases, voice actors, etc, development time is really where most of the cost comes from.

There have been plenty of developers saying that it's much easier to develop for consoles this gen compared to previous generations. How does easier to develop for and less time to make add up to eight or even two times more costly than last gen.

The only reason Capcom is saying this is because after seven years of developing the same games over and over again using only a few different engines, they have to make new engines and right now, it'll cost them more because they're making these engines for just a couple of games currently.

Like Squaresoft and Enix, Capcom is a shadow of its former self. The company is a joke.

I would be surprised to hear 10x given thought we were shortening time to triangle from last gen...

so, instead of releasing games every 2 years, they'll release them every 16 to 20 years?

Great, so can we expect to see 8 to 10 times as much DLC from them in the future..

Thanks for the heads up.

More like Street Fighter 5, Super street fighter 5, Super Street fighter 5 Turbo, Super Street fighter 5 Ultimate, Super Street fighter 5 Ultra........ Complete shambles.

just work 8 to 10 times harder. problem solved. lol

So there are 4.800 people working on Deep Down then? Because the highly acclaimed Resident Evil 6 had 600 people employed.

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
1. Super Mario Odyssey

More DLC w00t w00t

Don't believe this based on other next gen games not taking anywhere near that long.

Good job they can release Monster Hunter with PS2 era assets for another few years then, eh?

Really though, Resident Evil 6 demonstrated to me that Capcom have no idea what they're doing with development budgets and time management.

I dont see Capcom as a Elite or even in most cases a good developer anymore, so year maybe for them its 8-10 longer but theese are essentially pcs which should make developing for easier and thus shorter or at worse the same. but hey im not a developer of anykind so i could be totally wrong lol
