So this is as of September 30th! I almost thought it was severely overtracked!

Anyway excellent sales, hope it crushes my silly HW prediction this year. My favourite handheld console!

Good tracking, we will probably see an adjustment based on NPD though by the looks of that 11.5 Million number.

@anony: huh? Software is pretty much spot on, or it could be a bit overtracked if we assume digital sales represent more than ~1.5-2% of software sales.

Vgchartz had it at roughly 90 million at that stage. Am I misreading something?

Oh, I thought this was a recent number from Nintendo. 

Well, that number is software shipments and digital. 


Aye, I know, just the difference is becoming quite large. At the same point in time Wii U software on vgchartz was around 10 million, it was at roughly 20 million according to NPD. While I realise this is shipping numbers, digital sales are becoming an increasingly significant factor.

Well it seems December widened the difference at least somewhat.  I assume Nintendo is using the NPD tracking months which means there is still the week ending the 4th to add to the VGC total.  At the end of November the 3DS was reportedly almost at 10.5m.  That would put the NPD/VGC gap at about 270-370k.  If the next week has the same drop as last year that will bring the VGC total to 12 million, which means the gap is probably 400-500k now.

Granted that is a relatively small issue.  The bigger thing to potentially take away from this is no mention of Wii U sales.  Based on the VGC numbers we might have expected a recognition of hitting 2 million.  That would suggest less than 400k in December, but this is just speculation.  It's entirely possible they just didn't mention it.

Edit: forgot about Canada in 'North America'. Does that mean approx 1.5 mil 3DS' sold in Canada alone or is that too high?

canada, mexico, jamaica, cuba, etc..... :)
