Well the 3DS is what originally pushed Nintendo into making losses.  Also the attach rate after 11 quarters is quite a bit lower than the DS.  The DS attach rate was about 32% higher which resulted in overall software sales being 78% higher (a difference of 96 million units).

It has also missed every one of their hardware forecasts so far, and looks set to miss again this fiscal year.  In all likelihood the 3DS is making profit for Nintendo currently, but to call it a profit powerhouse would be a misnomer.

Last quarter they lost money.  I believe you are thinking of their net income for the six month period.  In the first quarter it was 8.624 billion Yen.  For the six month period it was 600 million.  That means in the second quarter they had a net loss of about 8 billion Yen.  For the half their net income was roughly 6 million USD.

More pertinent to 3DS profitability would be operating income.  In the first quarter they posted a loss of 4.9 billion Yen.  For the six months that increased to a loss of 23.3 billion.

Tats awesome news. I'm glad that their handheld is doing so well because it means it'll help offset the Wii-U struggles.

On a side note, I bet some of the "handhelds are consoles too" people are probably scratching their heads over Nintendo not calling it the number 1 console. Hint? It's because it's not one lol

I didn't know the 3DS was at the end of its lifetime, nor that the PSP and Vita are certain to achieve that milestone.

You can give the 3DS 10 more years and it'll still not sell more than 80-85M. Also, I said PS consoles.

Edit: I'll even say that the 3DS won't outsell the PSP.
