I've seen a couple movies in 3D and most didn't impress me very much the only exception being Gravity, which I strongly recommend to watch in 3D if you can.

I prefer the 3D screenings, and even buy movies on 3D Blu-Rays. When the movie is filmed on 3D, the immersion is amazing. Besides that, a lot of movies are 3D only here. There isn't an IMAX theater in my city, but when I go to a neighbor city that has it, they only have 3D movies on it. There isn't a 2D IMAX option available, you choose between 2D, 3D or IMAX 3D.
The other point is that the regular 2D movie don't offer any advantage compared to a Blu-Ray or even and pirated HD copy. That drives people away from the theaters. Now, most people don't have a 3D TV, so 3D is a new thing that they can't have at home.
I had to see Frozen in 2D (TWICE) and I just kept thinking to myself, "I bet that would have looked sooo cool in 3D". It feels like you're missing out on something. That's why 1080p is no big deal. 720p is good enough. Xbox One/Wii U for life!
Wait. What just happened?
3D costs the same as 2D? Yeah, in which country?
Because in mine I have to pay 120% more for watching movies in 3D. Which I am not going to. I haven't ever seen a 3D movie yet.
Maybe I am showing my age, but I find that all 3d movies look like a gimmick and I'd rather watch in 2D. I can't help but think I'm watching the Bots Master (if anyone remembers that.) I'm also cheap and would rather pay the least amount possible. :)
3d movies are an outright rip off, with inflated prices for no fucking reason other than 3d in the name, I was promised 3d immersive experience and was let down on every occasion, one bit of 3d and they charge you additional 25%. Unfortunately most cinemas around me in uk tend to only have 1:3 ratio of 2d to 3d screenings and at very peculiar times, nonetheless when I went to see hobbit surprisingly 2d was the closest screening and threaten was almost packed anyway, about 2 weeks after release.
As I said IMO, 3d is the biggest con in movie industry, and that's basically the reason why I consider the movie industry nothing more than money grabbing cunts.
Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

I hate 3D movies because I wear glasses and if I want to watch a 3D movie I either have to wear the 3D glasses over my glasses or wear contacts. Also I saw Avatar in 3D and I was disappointed I felt like it added almost nothing except for a few scenes. Why would I pay extra for a few scenes where something pops out. Animated movies are a different story though, they usually do take advantage of 3D so watching 3D animated movies is kind of worth it. I still prefer to watch them in 2D though.
Here in UK it costs around £3 - £4 more for a 3D movie, so i will rarely go and see a 3D film unless it is an animation or a film created with 3D specifically in mind, like Gravity.
If 2D and 3D screenings were the same price i would probably go for 3D just to see how the film utilised 3D
Edit: I also wear glasses for sight, so having to wear 2 pairs of glasses for 2+ hours isnt comfortable :/
3d kicks ass.... i love it on my tv and on the ps3 games that support it. And when I go to the movies i always buy the 3d show.
Personally, mostly because the 2D versions of 3D movies will have stuff flying towards the screen for no reason at all, and often poor notion of depth. You miss out on the (gimmicky) stuff of the 3D versions.
