Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Left Online Out Of Super Mario 3D World To Deliver The "NES" Experience - O_0

The biggest advantage of an online mode is being able to play with people who live far away. And why would being forced to stay on the same screen ruin online play? It works just fine in offline, I don't see why it would be a problem in online.

It would not ruin the game, but you will need to get a lot of additional things right and they don't make financial sense, you will need some kind of chat system to coordinate better, you will need people of around the same range of skill, or very good friends to really enjoy the game. And all that will require way too much effort (developing, testing and bug fixing) to please not so many people. It would be nice to have, but adding online for a mode that only a few will take advantage at all.

Using that logic, you might as well remove Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros' online Multiplayer then @ Financial talk.

As for the chat system +  players around the same range of skill/very good friends - I'm pretty sure there's a majority of people who are capable of finding people/friends to play online easily. There's also a lot of chatting programs which can be used as a alternative even if you dont use a ingame/insystem chat such as teamspeak, Dolby Axon, Raidcall, Ventrilo, etc.

So in the end its either developer laziness or financial risks (which I dont think Nintendo has much to risk for considering I'm sure they have more than enough monies in the bank :o).

Giving a reason such as "We want people to experience the NES style blah blah" is just a poor excuse for some other reason.

Those 2 games are clearly competitive games that can truly benefit from online, where you don't need friends to play, or chat to coordinate, but it could use a good matchmaking system. Besides they already have the online code for Mario Kart (at least) in the bag. What would not make good financial sense would be a co-op mode (story or classic mode) for Smash with online support.

If 3D World were online, it's online multiplayer would be exactly the same as it's local multiplayer (which is also the same as it's singleplayer), except instead of everyone being in one living room, they can all be in different living rooms. That would literally be the only difference.

But Nintendo cant afford it :P - at least that is what some people assume.

Yeah right, look at all their other online games, some of which requiring completely seperate modes be made.

Yeah nothing says NES experience like 4 player co-op, 3D graphics, and a fucking huge gamepad. I can't be too mad at Nitnendo. Ubisoft didn't include online in Rayman Legends either which is really disappointing. Both are great games regardless. But damn. LBP is the only 2D platformer to embrace co-op.

That is hilarious.

4 ≈ One

As someone who has a Wii U and this game, born into the arcade/Atari 2600 era of gaming, I must say, I don't see how online play would have enhanced the game much. It's a well done game with devious level design and good replay value. It really doesn't NEED to be online.

This doesn't sound like an excuse, it's just how Nintendo thinks. Which is also why a lot of people think they should modernize.

I'm just glad there's an option for people who don't want this like PS & Xbox.

Why? The NES's time was 20 years ago! Statements like this display the contrast between Nintendo and it's fans quite painfully.

Where is the progress here? Nintendo followers act superior when others claim to be intrigued by more advanced graphics. It gets seen as brainless and non innovative and yet this is how Nintendo operates!
