Nintendo does not care for me = confirmed.
I mean, I love local mp, but Nintendo have to learn that times have changed....

That's competitive online. Mario Kart's singleplayer sucks. Super Mario 3D World's singleplayer is amazing.
If I want the "NES feel" then i'll play it offline. Don't you dare decide that for me.
Only way for this to change is for Nintendo Faithfuls to stop buying these games.
You guys rush out and buy these games in droves, knowingly that Nintendo is just not trying hard enough to grash the preset (and future).
You keep buying half a$$ed games, Nintendo will continue to pump them out.
| flagstaad said: Ok, I will play devil's advocate... first lets remember that we are talking about MARIO here, not call of duty, or army of two, and let's begin. Mario is not a cooperative game really, do you need to play with others to reach the end of the stage? you need the powers of the other characters so much that is handled by an AI when you play alone (like RE5, or Army of two)? there is little advantage of adding online for co-op. Mario is not a competitive game either, is about who reaches first at any stage? who collects more coins? who dies less? you can get all those details with just a leader board. Hell if this is available, most likely you will never even see your competition because they are very good and leave you behind, or very bad and you left them behind. Why would you like to play online really? co-op is pointless and competitive is also pointless, so why spend time, money and effort to implement a mode that does not create a real advantage for the game? When you play local co-op you are all force to be on the same screen, is this the kind of online that you want in your Mario game? I think they made the right choice, they reduced the effort and costs of the game, by not including something that for me feels kind of pointless in the first place, and that many will not use anyway. |
SM3DW is a co-op game. It was revealed at E3 as a co-op game and you're encouraged to play it with friends. You can play it in single player, yes, but it was meant to be played with friends, just like NSMBW and NSMBU.
And if co-op is pointless, why is it that Nintendo made this a co-op game and why does pretty much everyone love playing it in co-op mode? Co-op isn't pointless just because you don't like it, there are tons of people who like playing co-op and it's certainly not pointless to them.

There is a difference between, "I can play it with friends" and "beign a co-op game". In Army of Two, you need a partner and both have to help (or at least move at the same speed to reach the end of the level, in Mario you don't need your partners, if you ask around you will se that more people play it as a friendly competition than as a co-op game. When you play on the same screen you are forced to be with the others but you are not really helping each other and part of the advantage of playing online is NOT to be forced to be on the same screen.
So you can choose, loose the biggest advantage of online play (each gets its own screen), or loose the sharing of the screen and make the "co-op" part of the game pointless. So this game online co-op is pointless really.

The biggest advantage of an online mode is being able to play with people who live far away. And why would being forced to stay on the same screen ruin online play? It works just fine in offline, I don't see why it would be a problem in online.
If this was about adding online multiplayer to, say, Metroid, then I'd have plenty of reservations. But 3D World already features multiplayer, so it's not like the game needs to be drastically redesigned. :P
It's more likely that Nintendo didn't think adding online multiplayer is worth the development time and manpower. What's more important? Skipping out on the chance to give Wii U traction over the holidays, or online multiplayer for one game? I can understand. Still kinda sucks, though.
