Forums - Nintendo - Wii U, getting some love!

I'm more concerned about the quality of the game itself, because looking at pc videos, the game looks bland.

Something is lacking, I don't know. Looks like another Gran Turismo Me-Too.

But I'm definitely curious to see which game takes the crown for Wii U graphics: project cars or shinen's racing game.

The Wii U can smoothly handle this game. As you know the PS4 and XBOX One have a 8-core x86 CPU code named ‘Jaguar.’ They also have 8GB of system RAM. It is said that the PS4 GPU is either a 7870 or a 7850 and the XBOX1 GPU is a 7850. x86 architecture uses what is called CISC or (Complex Instruction Set Computing.) This allows for the hardware to do the majority of the work and gives developers most of the power available right away.

The Wii U has 3 CPUs. A custom tri-core PowerPC750 built to run like a Power7 code named ‘Expresso.’ It also has a dual-core input/output ARM processor and a dedicated sound CPU. So altogether the Wii U has 6 available physical cores. PowerPC runs on what is called RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Computing.) This approach uses a much smaller memory footprint and has much faster communication. For those who are lazy this is kryptonite, but for those that are ambitious and talented this is a dream because it allows for better performance with very low power consumption. Once you actually take the time to figure out the architecture and make a engine making games will be just as easy as making them on the PS4 and XBOX1, but with better results.

No only that, but PowerPC technology is more efficient than x86. One core of a PowerPC is worth 2 cores of an x86 So to put that in perspective. If you look at the fact that the Wii U has 3 CPUs with 6 cores between them that would be an equivalent to 12 cores of an x86.

So... why doesn't Nintendo's first party stuff look as good as Sony or Microsoft's?

Well if your talking about 1st party, SM3DW looks better than Knack IMO. As for multiplats, like I stated, a talented developer can make use of the Wii U's diffrent, yet more efficient components. Instead many 3rd parties make adirect copy of a PS360 game without considering the different architecture. Killzone looks great by all means, but Wii U doesn't have a shooting game to compare to at the moment.

well look at that a positive Nintendo thread :O

As I've always said. When it comes to Nintendo just focus on the games. If Nintendo doesn't change their method to become more competitive, they might as well just focus on getting as many exclusives as possible to make the N64 at least somewhat appear to go out like the N64.

Sigh... Nintendo should have really consulted devs before making the Wii U. Even if its not selling well maybe they'd feel good enough about being consulted that they'd still make more third party games for it lol

Third party debs actually investing any time or effort into that useless console is a mistake at this point. They'll put money into it and it'll probably sell ~100K units, if that. Good luck.

Regardless, DriveClub will probably demolish this version of the game. ;)

they did consult 3rd party, only problem was that it was ONE company, EA led them down this goose chase with their unprecedented support. Next gen they relaly need to listen to the guys who actually shown to care about their console liek your Ubisfot and your Activisions as a start, then talk some of the better devs to try and get them onboard

Honestly, ill prolly buy and support it just cause these devs are taking praise about the wii u and not writing them off like all the other pig headed 3rd parties...cough..EA..

Its all a learning experience for them since Nintendo is ridiculously backwards when it comes to certain business decisions.

Even if it is a bad game, I will buy, a small team using the gamepad, and giving attention to our Wii U, why big-names like EA don't do that? don't look so hard.
