So lets get this straight. A few gaming journos, and yourself cant work out that PSP + PS Vita + PS3 + PS4 = over 100 million accounts.

Yet you think WP7 + 8, Windows 8, 360 and Xbox One = 48 million?

Considering Xbox Live is available on around 700 million more devices than PSN.

Seriously people need to take the Xbox.com for face value. Instead of beating around the bush.

Sony claimed when PS3 was at 22.3 million that they had 25 million PSN accounts. And Xbox Live had 22 million active accounts at 32 million 360's sold.

But in the same E3 Microsofts hours spent online was more than 22x Sony's. This shows again Microsofts numbers are Gold active users.

I get what Gabe was saying but the comparison isnt really the best one to make. Its probably valid on some level but for most i dont see how it applies.

If we look at the 65 million that Gabe quoted thats the total number of steam accounts of all time. Some of those users have PC's that can only run  a handful of games, some can only run games at unplayable FPS etc. Theres so much possibilities with those 65 million.

Those old PC's that need to be upgraded are (in a way) similar to Xbox 360's they can only run older games or newer games with lower quality etc. Eventually the 360 will be completely obsolete in terms of newer games, the same thing applies to older PC's. This brings us to the pros and cons of consolve vs. PC gaming. But i dont want to get into that.

A better comparison would be number of Xbox live users compared to steam users. But even that comparison isnt quite right...In any case i think people are naturally going to say that the comparison is a bit silly. The Gabe insults and all the other stuff is obviously not needed but you know how that goes around here :/

Edit: That being said i always find it a bit silly when people ask these type of questions...but if Gabe didnt want to comment on MS console sales then he should have just said that and talked about the steam platform. But by saying they need to catch up to 65 million...thats Gabes way of doing a direct comparison, and thats where i dont think it was the right thing to say. But Gabe says whatever he wants

He compared the Steam userbase to the XBox One userbase. Getting the point across that Steam Boxes aren't like new console generations where the userbase resets itself. But you already know that. 

Windows 8 was only at 100 million in May.  I rather doubt it has added another 650m in the past 7-8 months.  It took Windows 7 26.5 months to add 530m to its first 100m, and PC sales were higher back then.
