Forums - Sales - Microsoft: Over 3 million Xbox One's Sold to Consumers in 2013

Is anyone really surprised? We knew from November that 3 mil was safe bet. They sold over 900k in America alone in November.

True.

WIth your history and experience of following these things, how sure can we be of the wording in this PR release by MS in that its truly actual consoles sold to customers and not just shipped to retailers?

Its sold through.  It says so.

But manufacturers never TRULY know that figure do they, be it Sony or MS.

Yeah, they don't truly know, so what should we make of this PR release? Do you have a hunch of what it... how this 3 million sold-to-consumers-number might translate into possible shipments numbers in the Q4 2013 for MS Xbox One? Maybe that's a strange question but I think you understand what I mean sort of.

What can we hope for, 3.5 million, even 4 million shipped during 2013?

Yes they do know, they track day one updates. 3.5 million seems realistic

What's day one updates? You mean the mandatory internet patch updates that every new Xbone needs to be functioning?

Yes but MS doesn't have any past historical sales to compare with since the X360 didn't demand any internet connectivity. Let's say 95% of all new Xbone users connect to the internet during the first 24 hours. But what if that number is just 80%? It's hard to deduct the actual physical Xbone sales from the number of Day One internet updates.

Why would 20% (or 600k in this case) Xbox Owners not even unpack their Xbox One's??? You NEED that day one update to do anything.

gratz xbox.

...now i really expect a sony announcement tomorrow.

I think everyone has to make that update to play games no? And to the bolded, then Microsoft is underestimating it and the Xbox One sold more than 3 million.

Now MS did their announcement it's just a matter of time we hear of sony I think.

Should have a fairly good Q1 then.

WiiU shipped 3.45m in 2013 and only sold like 2.3m of that??

IF MS have shipped a similar amount, with nowhere near 1m stock on shelves, they will easily surpass the 390k WiiU shipped in Q1.

Wait a bit, the Wii U shipped only 390K in a full quarter (Q1 2013 I presume)?

And btw, whats your reason to you compare Xbone with a struggling console? PS4 is the console to compare it with, even though the Xbone will prob lose to Sony this gen there's no two ways around that fact. They're the unshakable hardcore gaming twins. Nobody can deny that Wii U is borderline irrelevant and thus is hardly something to measure to. (I'm just thinking out loud so I can hear how people reason, not attacking you Seece).

Thats some excellent sales for MS. Glad to see consoles doing so well.

Who knows how customers behave lol

I'm just reasoning based on past things. Sometimes these things take people by surprise, the number of people who actually connect their stuff to the internet.

I'm comparing it to WiiU because we know how it sold/shipped after the holiday. What would be the purpose comparing it to PS4? Xbox One will lose to PS4 this gen.

WiiU actually had a very good first shipment (3.45m) something XB1 and PS4 will be close too. And yes WIiU did 390k in the following Q. My point with comparing to WiiU is that if there are few XB1's on shelves from 2013 (or at least considerably less than the 1.2m WiiU's then XB1 should do much better than WiiU's Q1, even if sales drop like a rock.

This is confirmation though.

If I had said to you the ONE would sell 3m by end of 2013 back in August, you would have called me an idiot.

Even as late as November the average prediction here was 2.5m

Wonder how much over 3m they are. I'm hoping for 1m NPD personally. That figure fits in well with the rest of the info we have.
