Forums - Nintendo - How much will Mario Kart 8 & Smash Bros U sell?

Accounting an install base of MINIMUM 30 million:
Mario Kart 8 will sell 12-15 million lifetime.
Super Smash Bros U will sell 9-11 million lifetime.
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze will sell 5-6 million lifetime.
Super Mario 3D World will sell 8-10 million lifetime.
Pikmin 3 will sell 3-4 million lifetime.
New Super Luigi U will sell 4-7 million lifetime.
NSMBU will sell 12-14 million lifetime.
ZombiU will sell 2-3 million lifetime.
WindWaker HD will sell 3-5 million lifetime.
Lego City Undercover will sell 2-4 million lifetime.
Nintendo Land will sell 6-8 million lifetime.

Some of your predictions are not too bad, overall a bit optimistic though, with some predictions way off the charts if you ask me. My predictions are as followed:

Mario Kart 8: 10-12 million

New Super Mario Bros. U: 9-11 million

Super Mario 3D World: 6-8 million

Super Smash Bros: 4-6 million

Nintendo Land: 4-5 million

Donkey Kong Country - Tropical Freeze: 2-3 million

The Legend of Zelda - The Wind Waker HD: 1,5-2 million

New Super Luigi U: 1,5-2 million

Pikmin 3: 1-1,5 million

Lego City Undercover: 1 million

ZombiU: 1 million

I base my predictions on an installed hardware base of aprox. 35 million Wii U life time.

... Uhhhhhh... So Smash DS sales are going to hurt Wii U sales? Which I guess is why Mario Kart Wii was killed by Mario Kart DS? And Mario Kart gamers left Nintendo for Smart Phones... which is why Mario Kart 7 is tracking ahead of Mario Kart DS?

Anyway, about 8 million lifetime for Smash. Mario Kart U could be anywhere from 12-20 million depending on bundles.

MK Wii and MK DS released years apart. Smash Bros will be releasing on 3DS and WiiU at the same time which means people are going to have to choose between them. Most people are dumb and they will see the versions as identical and there will be no point for them to buy both. So yes, Smash Bros sales will be split between the two consoles.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

I think Mario Kart will get about a 50% attach rate by the end of 2014, a good question is will it drive Wii U sales? I'll play it safe and say 4.5 million copies by the end of 2014.

Smash will get maybe 25-30% attach rate since it's a fighting game & not as accessible as MK, again, will it be a system seller? I'll say around 2.3 million by year end.

im sorry but no. NSMBWiiU has sold a little more than 3 mil. thats with it being bundled and on the market for little more than a year. It is a far more popular franchise than either Smash or Kart. you think MK will do more than a 2d Mario with only 9 months? Explain.

Your Smash numbers make sense...if one wants to pretend their is no 3DS version, which i gaurantee will take some sales away from the WIi U.

Well, I'm one of those people who thinks that Mario Kart is one of Nintendo's healthier franchises, & one that can actually benifit from being on an HD console, unlike NSMBWU which looks almost identical in tech (on first glance) to the Wii game.  NSMBWU also had two other Mario/Luigi platformers to compete with in the systems first year, so saturation is a problem.  I'm also assuming that the Wii U install base will almost double by the end of 2014 to around 9 million, not the 4ish million that NSMBWU has been selling to until recently.

As for Smash, I'm nt too worried about the 3DS version taking sales from the Wii U version, some super fans will buy both, but most people with a Wii U will chose to buy it for the Wii U, but the 3DS version may impact new Wii U system sales since people will have the 3DS option.

SSBU: 1-2 million by end of 2014.
MK8: 2-3 million by end of 2014.

I honestly think both can manage over 10 million.

Mario Kart 8 will do around 10 million and Smash Bros 4 will do around 8 million.. Having a 3DS version of Smash 4 is a stupid idea and I wonder what the heck was Nintendo thinking  when they decided to use this idea.

the same thing they were thinking when they decided to make mario kart for portables and home consoles.

The portable and console MK games  never  come out  in  the  same year.

Mario Kart 8 I can see being a 10 million seller in the end,
SSB for Wii U I can see 8 million.
