Forums - Nintendo - News: Eurogamer choose SM3DW Game of The Year

I visited a friend for new years and his father is a huge Nintendo lover, so he of course had a Wii U and 3D World, my friend and I played a good chunk of the last third of the game and I really liked it. I actually always liked Mario, still I'd personally put it at number 2/3 of my GOTY list, behind TLOU and at about the same level as Ni No Kuni, but I honestly haven't played close to all big games this year.

So, all other games released in 2013 are not great when compared old franchise rehashed in HD. I think Mario 3D world is great for platforming and fun but i would not rate this as Overall game of the year as this is not new and real Innovation in 2013 other than HD graphics of old mario series. Everybody thinks gaming is only about fun and they evaluate only that variable for review the game as top and they forget other new things the game can and will be able to produce.

You realize that with 'old franchise' GTAV, Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Batman and all the others won't be able to win either right? Only The Last of Us, but I guess that's your agenda. Not Mario's fault for being around 30 years, especially if his games are still good.

As a side-note, people saying Nintendo-games are rehashes just because they belong to old franchises need to actually start playing some Nintendo games. The ignorance gets really annoying. More often then not, those are the only ones that aren't rehashes.

Anyone who refers to Nintendo's games as "rehashes" instantly loses all credibility in my book.

The latest Mario Party actually changed quite a bit and was lambasted for it.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

this aint news, this is blasphemy!!

The Last of Us was cool but I can watch drama on my TV whenever I want. The game was cool to play though, and it's a damn good survival horror.

But Super Mario 3D World takes the damn cake! I already sinked 30 hours in the game and I still have things to do! Not to mention I will likely go back to replay the game a million times!

Anyway both games could deserve the award but for me, Super Mario 3D World has the edge!

I picked up 3DW at Christmas and it's extremely good. It's also beautiful, innovative and fun "game" in the traditional sense. You are constantly "doing" something - you're in complete control of every cool move Mario does. Many modern AAA games are more about presentation and less about player action. Not that that's bad, and everything has its place, but I really enjoy what has been done with Mario 3D.
