Pointless thread. Vita is a handheld. How is Wii-U doing against it's competition?

I already made a thread some time ago about PS4 overtaking WiiU in yearly sales.

It's not exactly pointless, because at the start of the year pretty much everyone expected WiiU to outsell Vita comfortably in 2013.

Not me!

I more or less expected the Wii U to sell poorly ever since it was announced.

That it beat vita shows something... but not a whole lot.  Maybe puts it around N64 level.

Same here. I was hoping Vita could win this year, pity that the Wii U Christmas boost was too much for it. Sony needs to start caring about the West more and actually give us more than 2 big games a year.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

Wasn't it supposed to sell 9 million in the fiscal year?

Well, that was Nintendo's projection. Most people could see they would never make it, even early on. Still, I don't think many expected something like 3-3.5m for the fiscal year.

Their fiscal year ends in March.  Maybe they can get closer to 4 million.

While it is true that the fiscal year ends in March, the numbers from VGChartz count YTD which add 600k to the Wii U total from JAN-MAR 2013. It is certainly possible that they can sell more units in the JAN-MAR 2014 period, but only what they sell over 600k will actually add to the tally.

Oh yeah, my mistake. They will be at only around 3.5M for the fiscal then.

Just past September analysts were still predicting 6-6.5M.

My 8th gen collection

Ok, so a console with one foot in the grave outsold a handheld with both feet in the grave...

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Good Job Wii U, NOW Outsell that PS4

Done, Wii U 5 million units sold, PS4 3.5 million. (That was easy.) Now PS4, outsell that 3DS.

Oh, 3DS, what would we do without youuuuu

Noone knows because everyone has one. Lol.

I wanna see both Vita and WiiU to double their sales.

You were expecting a no contest in 2013 too. You are really a stubborn person.

Woah, a tad harsh don't you think? I made an error on the sales front, I think everyone did. No biggie really. I do expect no contest in 2014, by that I mean more than 2mil sales difference, but if I'm wrong, I'd be happy to admit that. I hope I am, as the Vita is an excellent system (loving Tearaway BTW) and deserves better.

I'm not sure how that makes me stubborn. But clearly, different opinions I guess.

I was joking, didn't mean anything by that (stubborn part). Though  it was worth pointing it out, you never know. I also thought the difference would be more significant than it is now (though I wouldn't say no contest).

It just shows how depressing sales of both consoles are: This is still the lowest number a Nintendo console has ever pulled (not counting the Virtual Boy and other console's twilight years of course). In times of danger Nintendo withdraws to its handheld business and Sony to its home consoles.

Arent the gamecube's 2002 fiscal year sales lower?

I'm surprised WiiU was even behind Vita. It was doing so well at the start of the year, and Vita never really did that well at all.

Still, it's nice to see, I hope WiiU tops Vita in 2014. Lets see if Mario Kart gives enough of a boost.

We must've been looking at different charts O.O.

Sales absolutely crashed as early as late December-early Jan.

WiiU was outselling PSV until late February, when PSV sales jumped from 30k weekly to 86k. Then WiiU got a little jump above Vita for a couple weeks and after Wii sales crashed in May.

Anyway with 3D Worlds, Donkey Kong, and Mario Kart, I think WiiU could pull off decent numbers in 2014. Lets wee where it stabilizes.
