Below we have compiled a list of the most-pirated films on BitTorrent networks in 2013. The data is estimated by TorrentFreak based on several sources, including download statistics reported by public BitTorrent trackers. Files downloaded between January 1st and mid-December are counted, which means that the list has a bias towards films that were released earlier in the year.

It is worth noting that online streaming and cyberlocker downloads are not included since there are no public sources to draw data from. The total piracy numbers will therefore be significantly higher.

HHHH I Just came to comment that, my agreement with this is too damn high.

I also downloaded the first and last ones of the list. I wasn't much of a movie guy this year.

I downloaded all 10 of those. What do I win?

How much money did they make from the box office? Hundreds of millions in profit.
The movie industry is fine...

I've never even heard of Gangster Squad, so I'm not surprised by the low box office numbers, but the downloads are quite high.

Doesn't surprise me to see the Hobbit taking the first place. That's a lot of lost money right there though.

Assuming every single downloader would have went to the theater and watched the movie had pirating not been an option, yes, that is a lot of money.

Of course just like gaming piracy, the reality is a very small minority of people would have went and experienced it legally, so not much lost money actually.

The hell is Catching Fire?

The movie was released in November so it only had about a month and a half worth of downloads compared to a full 12 months for The Hobbit and Django.

If one million of the original 8,4 million that downloaded the Hobbit would have bought it legaly then it is quite a lot of money. Many (notice, I didn't say most) that downloads movies this way would have bought them otherwise.
