Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Dark Souls Producer says Wii U audience doesn't care about Dark Souls.

Every time a dev says "the Wii doesn't have such an audience", you guys attack them and say they're idiots. Yet, Nintendo's audience prove time and again that such games aren't attractive to them.

Look at COD. One the highest selling, most mainstream games out there, and it sells like complete butt on Nintendo. Come on now.

I feel this producer is lying.

WiiU owners are probably asking a DS version for their console, but he/she knows it's hard to make money on WiiU.

I am exploding with laughter.

It's not like Dark Souls has SO MANY FANS on the HD consoles. It sold 2 millions combined on both, PS3 and X360.

160 million install base and it only managed to shift 2 million copies despite being a critical hit. Why was there no Wii version? The game is ugly and it fits the Wii controls. I would've tested the waters with a Wii version at least.

I can't tell if you're trolling or just bitter.

Is this really a question?

Yes, it is. Wii U is an unmatched failure, don't make games for it. What about the Wii?

The late PC BROKEN version port sold 300k and it's getting the Dark Souls 2. I would've made it for the Wii if 300k copies on PC were enough to guarantee a sequel.

It's been patched, now it's quite perfect.

The game is also not at all ugly, even if perfectly within the capabilities of the Wii U. Bottom line, get it for PS3/360/PC if that's a game you want.

edit: I missed the fact that it's actually the original Wii you're talking about. Lol, no. The game manages framerate issues on the PS3 and PC (no idea of X360), I wonder how much of a downgrade it'd need to be hit with to run at least like that on the Wii. But Boutros already said it best.

Yeah. I talking about the original Wii and the original Dark souls. I can't blame them for skipping Wii U.

What. You said that Dark Soul difficulty would repel Wii owners. That's not true. The games you described as cartoonish can be a lot harder and more challanging than those on the PS360. Definitely harder than games like Tomb Raider, AssCreed, Prince of Persia just to name a few.

Super Mario 3d world gives you invincibility from dying too much...that isn't challenging at all.

Have you not considered that Dark Souls does not run on the Wii?

They'd have to actually make a weaker version of their own game. Who actually wants to do that?

And they're not Activision. They don't have a lot of ressources. A Wii port demands development time and it requires programmers to actually understand the Wii hardware. All of that is money. And time. Time that can be used to make Dark Souls II (where profit is far more guaranteed). Making it on the Wii is actually a financial risk for them.

That's true for games like Tomb raider, Hitman, AssCreed, or any other game with extremely high budget. Dark Souls however, doesn't need to sell as many copies. Sure, there is a risk. But just how risky was it to release a game like Dark souls on the Wii?

PS3 hardware was very different from the X360's. But they took their time with it.

Dude, when EA ported The Simpsons Game over to the Wii, it couldn't handle the open-world Springfield portion of the game, so they had to cut it out of that version entirely.  There is no way in hell the Wii would have been able to handle the open-world of Dark Souls.

I doubt the Wii can't handle a game that falls from 10 fps in certain areas, at least on the 360 version.

What about the online infraestructure? They basically would have needed to redo that too.

...framerate issues on PS3,360, and PC, thank you

Heh.  I guess Blighttown hit us all, hard. xD

No kidding >.<

@Talal: My friend manages... though just barely, really.

I am talking about the original Wii. Mario games on the Wii U are too easy unless you are chasing collectables. But Let's not cut the Wii list of games short and pretend Mario is the only game Nintendo makes.
