Saw you playing it earlier. Any first impressions?

Game of the year. It's amazing! OMG!!!

It's a lot like WarioWare boss stages when it comes to the length of the challenges, so 30-60 seconds are the norm. At times there is a sequence of objectives which take around ten seconds each. Some of those old games (like Pinball, Wrecking Crew and Balloon Fight) are actually more interesting to play with those challenges than the actual versions of them. The meatiest game of the bunch (The Legend of Zelda) feels butchered, but it's still fun to play only the most important moments of the game (you get to fight all of the bosses, collect some of the good items and discover the dungeons). There's even a cameo of the Zelda shop in the game's main menu which links you to the eShop, so that you buy the actual Virtual Console games.

Since most of the games are from the very early NES era, the controls are a bit stiff and the physics don't feel particularly good either, but that's just how games were back in the day. You certainly need to be able to appreciate those old games.

There are over 200 challenges. You can earn up to three stars in each of them which unlock remix stages that feature graphical changes to the games. For example, the camera can zoom in or out, most of the screen is dark or the screen gets blurry midway through the challenge. You also earn Bits for all of your accomplishments which unlock stamps that you can attach to Miiverse posts. There are always several options for what to play next and you unlock new stuff pretty much all the time. I played that thing for several hours in one go and it didn't get boring.

The worst thing is to get reminded of just how bad Ice Climber is. I hate that game so much, because the collision detection is horrible. You fall through the edge of the floor and that's pretty annoying when the platforming is already so bad to begin with.

hmm... I was not really interested on getting this anytime soon... But now I have to... Thanks Rol!!

How much it costs?

9.99$/9.99€ if I'am not mistaken

It's actually going to be $14.99 here in America, which is precisely why I won't be in any hurry to get it.

In fact, I have a suspicion that, between this an Dr. Luigi (also $15), Nintendo has finally gotten wise to the psychological power of sales, and these games were purposely overpriced to put them on sale in the near future for the purposes of coralling all of us into jumping at the marked down price ($10, or $7.50 if Nintendo is really trying to get some good PR). These games cost next to nothing to make, so any temporary markdown isn't hurting profit at all.

OK 14.99$/9.99€

I bought it and I really like it. Only one challenge really sucked so far, the 10 1UP thing in a row.

Sounds really encouraging. If it has the essence of the games and meaningful challenges, it can be something special.

Color me surprised. This looked like the laziest cash-in I'd ever seen when they showed it in the ND. I imagined a conversation like this taking place:

"What can we offer in terms of new software for Wii U owners, like... tomorrow?"
"I dunno... Super Mario Bros?"
"It's already on the Virtual Console."
"So flip it backwards and change its name and charge three times as much for it."
"YOU'RE A GENIUS."

I guess they didn't explain it very well, because I was under the impression that there was very little content in this package.

wow.   on the one hand,. that's really cool fan services.   on the other hand,. what a waste of resources.

I'm pretty sure it didn't took more than 10 people to make this.

10 people that could have helped get wii fit U out on time...

Wii fit U´s development is 100% complete, I have seen it in stores here in Europe .

Do you think the 10 japanese developers that made this (our made up number) could have helped release Fit U sooner ?

Don´t be rediculous.

Wii Fit U, Originally Planned For Launch Window, Coming This Winter

...or take your pick of any other project.  DK got delayed too.   these remixes will do nothing for anyone that isn't a massive nintendo fan.   ..not exactly the crowd nintendo needs to convince to buy a wiiU.   pretty much any other project would have been worthy of these resources.

But this game isn't made by Nintendo themself, Nintendo outsourced it to indieszero, which is a game developer who has mostly made DSiWare and also made DualPenSports (a badly reviewed game), so it's not like they could have done anything else since they aren't really good and Nintendo wouldn't let them work on their bigger titles...
The only thing Nintendo spent is money, which they probably already got back after one day of sales.
