Game of the year. It's amazing! OMG!!! It's a lot like WarioWare boss stages when it comes to the length of the challenges, so 30-60 seconds are the norm. At times there is a sequence of objectives which take around ten seconds each. Some of those old games (like Pinball, Wrecking Crew and Balloon Fight) are actually more interesting to play with those challenges than the actual versions of them. The meatiest game of the bunch (The Legend of Zelda) feels butchered, but it's still fun to play only the most important moments of the game (you get to fight all of the bosses, collect some of the good items and discover the dungeons). There's even a cameo of the Zelda shop in the game's main menu which links you to the eShop, so that you buy the actual Virtual Console games. Since most of the games are from the very early NES era, the controls are a bit stiff and the physics don't feel particularly good either, but that's just how games were back in the day. You certainly need to be able to appreciate those old games. There are over 200 challenges. You can earn up to three stars in each of them which unlock remix stages that feature graphical changes to the games. For example, the camera can zoom in or out, most of the screen is dark or the screen gets blurry midway through the challenge. You also earn Bits for all of your accomplishments which unlock stamps that you can attach to Miiverse posts. There are always several options for what to play next and you unlock new stuff pretty much all the time. I played that thing for several hours in one go and it didn't get boring. The worst thing is to get reminded of just how bad Ice Climber is. I hate that game so much, because the collision detection is horrible. You fall through the edge of the floor and that's pretty annoying when the platforming is already so bad to begin with. |
hmm... I was not really interested on getting this anytime soon... But now I have to... Thanks Rol!!
