I'm waiting... I can't wait until a video site better than Youtube comes from somewhere!

I just wish Google would just go the fuck away from Youtube... Youtube was perfect before  Google became all greedy.

Good luck with that. You do even know the massive amount of money needed to create youtubes datacenters?

Youtube pre-purchase was bleeding money no-stop. This whole content ID thing did not start with this videogame channels getting videos claimed. It all started with the music videos being uploaded without any permission. The music industry forced google to sign a contract and create VEVO, some other music labels have thier own systems though. People are reacting like if this is googles' doing, but their position is simple. Keep those video game channels and getting sued, or claiming everything they can to avoid getting sued? It makes sense right?

Personally, I'm okay with youtube making money and I'm fine with copyright protection (unless I want to watch something like old WWE matches or a TV show from my childhood...but I don't get mad when the rules are enforced.)  It's the forced Google Plus integration that pisses me off.

Completely behind you on that, but there's no defending all this Google+ shit. NO, I DON'T WANT TO JOIN GOOGLE+. I DON'T WANT TO HAVE MY REAL NAME APPEAR IN THE COMMENTS SECTION. I DON'T WANT TO GIVE YOU MY CELL NUMBER. I DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO OPEN A NEW TAB TO VIEW A COMMENT SOMEONE REPLIED TO. I DON'T WANT YOU COLLECTING DATA ON MY BROWSING HABITS SO YOU CAN PUT THE SAME DAMN WATCH RECOMMENDATIONS ON EVERY SINGLE VIDEO I CLICK.

Yes, they're like people are satisfied with our website.. Let's change it.

Using game footage for the purpose of criticism and commentary (in a review) is explicitly protected under Fair Use in the US. There is no legal basis for many of these takedowns, even if the game companies disapprove.  There's no ambiguity. It's just Google letting them do it anyway.

can anyone tell me what does this all mean? like whats going to happen for people like pewdiepie(cant stand him) and others that do gameplay with commentaries are they not going to be able to do it anymore? what happens to all the old copyrighted footage?

Yes. It means that people who use gameplay footage or music aren't going to be able to make money  off their videos... Classic Game Room  is moving to his website, Angry Joe is not very happy about this, ProJared already has a bunch of Pokemon videos claimed..... A clusterfuck.

Now, i'm pretty in favor of internet freedom, but i fail to see the issue here. What looks like the problem is that people expect to make money off of this. Google is allowing these videos to continue to exist, which is what should happen, but you can't really be using other people's IPs to make money for yourself in such a blatant way (although neither should the money go to the owners if the videos are running under fair use, then it's free money for the owner for something somebody else did)

What it should be is that the majority of Youtube videos shouldn't yield money to their makers at all. Partner-producers (for, like, exclusive YT series or something) should make money off Youtube, but it should be a hobby for most, and mere practice for those who seriously do want to pursue a career in videography

The last part is what's most annoying. Recommendations as "more like this" was exactly perfect, why they decided to make it into "stuff you've watched in general" I have no idea. Once I watched a right-wing political video (once!) just to see the disagreeable things they were saying, and they kept recommending Romney crap on my feed for the rest of 2012. Madness.

The part about demanding you leave your cell number was what really got to me. I get that you want to eradicate spam bots and help people recover passwords, but don't give me a deadline and an ultimatum to give you personal information like that. Especially when it's just freaking YouTube; it's not like there was money or credit card info on the line. I was seriously going to delete my account when the option to skip all that BS went away, but I guess Google stopped begging me for it when it dropped Google+ on us.

But I see your point with the "stuff you've watched in general" recommendations. While Google does some awesome things (Google Fiber comes to mind), I I'm a bit wary of a company collecting data on me from just about every site that I visit. This is why I use Firefox with Adblock+ and NoScript with google-analytics.com blocked across the board.

I hope someone at Twitch willl find a way to exploit this.

Watch Mojo was banned, what a joke if anything they advertise movies, so many times iv watch one of their top 10s and went "omg i need to watch that movie"

And yet 99% of us still use Youtube on a daily base. Face it, Youtube isn't going anywhere unless we all take a stand and leave the site en masse.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!
