Forums - Sales - Vita outsold by Wii on BF. Sony, send us a message!

tearaway is nice but not something i would consider a vita system seller. also you can't expect a lot of people to buy a vita when they're all waiting for ps4. maybe one day when everone has one and there is a dry time with no ps4 games coming out more people would consider buying a vita when they see ps+ offers them vita stuff. but imo they should try (have tried) to buy ff type-0 from SE and bring it to vita globally.

Try getting a teenage or college guy to play a Vita or 3DS infront of a group of girls he likes (ie: on a bus or during lunch break at school/college). Not happening.

Looking at your smartphone though? Smartphones are "cool", playing "Game Boy" is not, it implies you're a juvenile.

I'm not saying that's the way it should be, but really there definitely is that stigma still. At least in the USA/Canada, for sure. Probably the UK too.

Sony is running into a brick wall trying to sell handhelds to this audience, the PSP had a good first few years in the US, but it fizzled out by about mid-cycle.

This is indeed the case in UK. 3DS is for kids and core Nintendo fans. Vita caters for young males but the only "handheld" they would ever play in front of others is a smartphone. Sad but true (at least here).

Sony should rather put all those great PS1, PS2, PSP and Vita games on a regular smartphone like the praised Xperia Z1. Why doesn't open a PS Store exclusively to the Xperia brand?

Because the controls don't translate well to touch screens.

I agree pez but "PS1, PS2, PSP and Vita games on smartphones would still mean bad controls but at least kids wouldn't grow up believing garbage is acceptable."

You were stating vita didn't take off cuz ps4 didn't take off (due to supply). Then if that were true (vita suppose to take off as the killer app) i asked why vita didn't take off on ps4 mil+ launch week? http://www.vgchartz.com/weekly/41595/USA/

Like I said: All the people that wanted to buy PS4+Vita couldn't get them, because they sold out so fast (the PS4s). Although, Vita saw a 34% boost that week. Pretty good.

It was Week of Nov 15 everything was getting boosted in the US, also  that means that exta 34% boost (which is what, less than 10k) bought a vita along with a ps4. That week ps4 sold 1mil in the US which means 1 out of 100 bought both. Looks ok but that was a launch week

3DS, 360, PS3 got no boosts! Some of them even went down

3DS got a boost! A tiny one but its selling 130k+ also look at Wii+DS they got boost, Wii got a bigger percentage boost than vita despite it being dead!

Edit: i made a mistake, psv only grew 3k that week, i thought it was 35k, i looked at the wrong number. So that means about 1 out of every 300 people bought a vita along with their ps4 :P

It's hard for third parties to have faith in a system when even Sony don't seem to.
In Japan it's a different story, as the handheld-centric market has given it enough sales to justify support, but the situation in the US is worrying. It's getting gang-bashed by 3DS and smartphones/tablets, and Sony are just letting it happen.
While I maintain Vita will be a successful platform in the long run thanks to Japan, I'm having serious doubts about it's future in the USA.

I honestly don't think the remote play thing is going to sell vitas.
I thought that the price cut would have boosted a ton of sales, but it just isn't happening.
Oh well..

Has those most wanted Japanese games been localized for the Vita? No, then there you go. Hopeless!!!

Hey 156k controllers in a week is pretty good (complain to Sony if you disagree with this post).

Says the guy with a WW HD artwork :D

I'm sorry, but this is original Wind Waker artwork, as shown by the lack of HD behind "Wind Waker" in the picture. And since Sony themselves don't bother to market the Vita as anything but a PS4 controller I actually was serious.

EDIT: Also, I agree. WiiU does sell terrible

Maybe serious but also wrong, if Sony would makret the Vita as a PS4 controller, they wouldnt release game or ask for games on it.

There is a good amount of games coming in 2014 on Vita, a good part is first party

Ahem, third party games obviously don't count here. And which games has Sony announced for the Vita in 2014 so far? I think I may have heard something about a GoW Vita, but I'm not even sure if was just a rumor since I haven't seen a single picture of it. That's all that comes to me when thinking of Vita 1st party games 2014. What did I miss?

Third party obviously count, thanks to Sony, Vita has a decent third party support

1st party :
Freedom Wars

Soul Sacrifice Delta

Oreshika 2

Murasaki Baby

Gravity Rush ( no date )

and Infamous leaked by Famousmortimer with no date too.

This is similar to what comes from nintendo on Wii U ( mario kart, SSB and maybe X, no date for now )

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

Vita was outsold by the 3DS on black friday. That's all that matters, and the ONLY thing that matters. Handhelds and home consoles are separate markets and don't compete.

It will get decent Japanese support. No worries there. It's support from the West that is worrying, including Sony's own studios.

Yeah, the lack of support from Sony really is worrying.

I mean, seriously: How expensive would it have been to get an upport of Final Fantasy Type-0 on the Vita ?

Nintendo was able to publish Bravely Default here (seriously, buy it !) so the problem very, very likely wasn´t on Squeenix´s side (as in Squeenix not allowing other companys to publish games for them).

Gah, Sony, the Vita is great DESPITE you !
