Forums - PC - PC Gamers are delusional (controversial opinion)

This seems like such a silly argument to me and to claim you have a high end PC but cannot see the justification in them is laughable and easy to see its a lie.

I multi task every day. You have a high end PC but never use multi tasking? No

Why is a PC better?
The online is free so its cheaper in the long run
I can do a lot more than just play games on it. Granted you can on a PS4/X1 but its limited.
Games are better
Graphics are better
Controls are better
More Options for games
Cheaper prices for games
While I do own a console, I wont act like its superior to my PC. I only own it because its library is vastly different to my PC and I can play it while I am sitting at my PC.
With consoles, especially PS4 and X1, you are paying more, for an inferior experience. I can build a PC superior to the mobile parts in PS4 for around 500.00
Now if I paid 400 for a PS4 I would also need to pay to access online. That is over 1000.00 spent over 10 years.
500.00 more for less in every way. Less options, less power, less games.

You have an opinion, that means you must be right. lol

Paying for online access on PS4 is only for multiplayer games. Games like warframe, DCUO, etc and apps like Netflix that already have a subscription plan will not be behind a PSN pay wall.

Now here is where I see a flaw in your claim. You can build a PC for $500 that can mimic the PS4 specs. I guarantee you that your $500 PC will have poor performance playing new games 5 years later. PS4 games will be optimise and have better performance without needing to spend for upgrades.

Try building a PC with PS3 specs and run MW3 or MW4 on it. You'll see what I mean.

Because they do it with Square Enix. Final Fantasy XIV:ARR is cross platform with PC, PS3, and soon PS4. Warframe will also have crossplatform play soon with PS4 and PC.

As far as I know they are just holding back the patches on PC so that they go up at the same time as the console versions so that they match up, something that the developers of Star Citizen nad Planetside 2 are not willing to do.

"Because of the update cadence, and the additional steps you have to go through to be able to release an update on the PlayStation network, we're not going to be able to keep our servers in sync, so you won't be able to just play with the same people," Higby explained.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-08-05-sony-explains-lack-of-planetside-2-pc-and-ps4-cross-platform-play-teases-character-transfers

Unless you think that a first party studio would have more issues than a 3rd party one I see no other way.

Sounds like its totally up to the devs to decide whats best.

For instance, FFXIV dev team has a staff of over 300. The work is divided and tested on each platform in parallel.

Considering you can't buy hardware that's equivalent to a PS3/Xbox 360, that point is now moot.

However, if you bought a Core 2 Quad at the start of the PS3/360 generation and game at equivalent settings, the cost of online access alone could have kept you gaming just fine.
Heck, even the "next generation" console multiplatforms run on such a system just fine (For now at-least) and you didn't have to drop hundreds of bucks to achieve that, just a $30-$60 GPU upgrade.

PC is always cheaper in the long run, developers also get larger profits due to not only giving the publishers a large cut, but Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo too.

But here is Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 running on a console equivalent PC:

Or hows about Crysis 2?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZbLAtoZNOY
Metro 2033 even?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spMcCWUeqyY
Skyrim on even worse-specs than a console? (Single Core CPU, Radeon x1650)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaLyjqhMpGM
Battlefield 4 with a $30 GPU.

The PC is extremely scalable, you can go up or down.
For instance take Oblivion for example, if you alter the shaders and get some low-poly model replacements and scale down all the effects you could get it running on origional Xbox class hardware (Geforce 3 and Pentium 3), the reverse holds true aswell where you can scale the image quality so it surpasses the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

This car analogy is shit. To say the least. Most performance cars have poor handling, among other things that more affordable cars excel at in comparison.

Depends on the performance car, after driving a Monaro I wouldn't think the same.

I'd like to address the price argument, to an extent at least.

  • Online gaming is free on PC. It's not free on competing consoles.
  • PC has ridiculous sales (in the good sense). Consoles don't.
  • Console games cost more than PC games even at launch.
  • The investment you make when purchasing a PC isn't an investement in just gaming. I doubt a lot of people here are still using their first computer.

To put it short, if you're a very active gamer, PC has a pretty good chance of being the cheaper choice for you.

Also, the cost of a PC upgrade isn't necessarily the same as the cost of upgrading your gaming capabilities as you're getting a lot else out if it, too. And upgrading your PC isn't that rare, either: I don't think it's hard to imagine gaming people upgrading their PC's once every ten years or so. All in all, in most cases it's not fair to directly compare the price of a new PC to the price of a new console.

Those games is struggling on those cards, and the setting are on low plus they might be overcloked.  All you did was just help me prove my point even further. And you even showed Skyrim on a Pentium 4 that looks like shit lol.

You're missing the point completely. - Which isn't entirely unexpected I suppose.

The only point you're showing me is that low spec PC built to mimic consoles play today games very poorly. Thanks for that.
