I'd like to address the price argument, to an extent at least.

  • Online gaming is free on PC. It's not free on competing consoles.
  • PC has ridiculous sales (in the good sense). Consoles don't.
  • Console games cost more than PC games even at launch.
  • The investment you make when purchasing a PC isn't an investement in just gaming. I doubt a lot of people here are still using their first computer.

To put it short, if you're a very active gamer, PC has a pretty good chance of being the cheaper choice for you.

Also, the cost of a PC upgrade isn't necessarily the same as the cost of upgrading your gaming capabilities as you're getting a lot else out if it, too. And upgrading your PC isn't that rare, either: I don't think it's hard to imagine gaming people upgrading their PC's once every ten years or so. All in all, in most cases it's not fair to directly compare the price of a new PC to the price of a new console.
