Forums - Sales - Final Fantasy XIII-3 And Mario 3D World Bomb In Japan (Also Vita TV Bomba!)

This is everything those egregious, incompetant cunts at Square Enix deserve for firstly, driving the franchise into the ground and secondly, not listening to what the fans have wanted since XII released.

Fuck off Square Enix, take Final Fantasy XIII with you.

During the summer didn't Nintendo fans blame Pikmin 3 not being very popular in Japan for equal sales? So what's the excuse now? The Wii U has a problem that no amount of Nintendo games can fix, at least not old from known IPs.

Because Pikmin was never popular anywhere. Why Nintendo made another sequel I will never know but 3D Mario has never been popular there.

Lightning returns and Mario 3D world is what would any reasonable person would expect. In Mario 3D world's case we are talking about a game that will sell for years and will stay comparable to other Mario games. I'm the most surprised by how bad the Vita TV bombed in Japan.

Bold: No, it won't. Nothing at all even hints at the possibility.

Mario games always had very long legs. NSMBU still figures among the 15 best sellers (current 13), even one year after its launch. If this game goes as any previous Mario, expect to see it charted for a long time.

So I was wondering. Is this the end of the Wii U in japan? Can we call it a "dead" system there?

It looks like.

And... I said it, it was floping when the 20% sell throught numbers were given, yet some of you judged me.

Yep, you said it, we will never doubt you again pavolink

At least you learned now.

On the most succesful Nintendo console ever, one of the best rated games in the history of gaming, Mario Galaxy did 1.20 millions and Mario Galaxy 2 did less than a million. How much do you think 3D world will do ?

I would expect about 900k. That's enough for me to compare them to the last gen versions. Actually, now that I look them in perspective 3D world did great taking in consideration the massive difference in user base.

I know people here loves to hate on Nintendo but the game itself did fine.

Mario 64 had a smaller userbase on the N64 and DS at launch and sold more first week.  Sunshine sold over 2.6x more first week than 3D World and the Gamecube userbase was only about 250k higher than the Wii U's.  It also caused a much bigger hardware bump for the Gamecube.

As you said, the Galaxy games were some of the best rated games ever on Nintendo's most successful console.  So why exactly should 3D World have better legs?

Less competition from other games, lack of a Mario sequel that would (almost) kill sales. Of course, here I'm assuming that Nintendo won't release another Mario 3D/Galaxy to kill the legs of the current one.

And times have changed from the Cube/64 era. I wouldn't base my predictions on how those systems or games on those systems did.

....seriously? 3D Mario is not popular in Japan, that's what we're claiming now? Your graph proves the complete opposite, nearly every 3D Mario has sold over a million units in Japan, which is something hardly any game series can claim about itself over there. 3D Mario is popular in Japan.

Less competition hasn't exactly been giving the current Wii U games amazing legs.  Plus Galaxy was pretty much done selling in Japan by the time Galaxy 2 came out.  Media Create had it at 35k in 2009, Famitsu even less.

I'd say times have changed even more from the Wii era, but you still see fit to compare it to those games.  3D World had a worse attach rate than all of the games on that chart other than the Wii releases, yet you said it did great considering the userbase.

Well you people bashing Mario 3D world's sales gave your opinion and I already gave mine. I'm not the type of person who will stay days (like some do) the same thing over and over. We'll see in a few years how the game does.

Regardless, the most important thing that won't ever change is that Nintendo once again gave to the gamer community one of the best experiences that can be purchased with our money. Thats great and even if people here hates the game just because it doesn't says Sony in the box that won't hurt to the rest of us that only care about games for what they are, and not for what brand published the game.
