100k in one day :P

Pretty sure that's three days of sales there boss, pretty typical for most first week charting games.

Around the Network

One is a spin off of a spin off sequel waifu dress-up simulator while the other is supposed to be a system seller. Let that sink in for a while while I dress-up Lightning.

This does not bode well for the Wii U at all, i think there's gonna be some tough decisions for Nintendo come January, if it cant do the business this xmas.

FLOOOOOOOOOP!

"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"

Well it was never going to sell much better on an install base that tiny. Pretty sure even Nintendo is not surprised. It will just have to keep selling.

Their only chance for a significant Wii U improvement would have been Mario Kart 8. Bet they'd have loved to release it this holiday, but in the end it's wise to hold it back until spring. Otherwise Wii U would just die next year.

Next year should be good, at least in terms of games... MK8, Smash, Donkey Kong, X, Yoshi's Yarn, Bayonetta 2 and a few unannounced ones. That's a lot of first party heavyweights in one year. Plus info on Zelda (and Metroid?).

I think Nintendo was hoping the combo of NSMBU + Wii Party U hardware bundles + Wii Sports Club + Wii Fit U trial + Mario 3D World + Taiko Drum Master would cause a large boost and act as kind of a "relaunch" for the system in Japan. They were wrong.

Basically they were banking on the "Wii casual" + Mario fan audience carrying them this holiday. Casuals have betrayed them, I think that much is obvious. Only reason Wii Party U is putting up respectable numbers in Japan is because it comes bundled with the system whether you want it or not.

As a standalone release it's a bomb.

Err, it's not great for Mario, but I think that it will have good legs. HW isn't anything to shout at but it ain't terrible.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I was expecting something around 300-400 1st week for LR FF XIII and it did around 300k... I don't think SE was pretending to be anything more. Just make a game that is profitable and go on.

To me XIII-2 and LR are games that were made only for the reason of make profitable the costs of FF XIII, and in that regard and seeing how cheap were XIII-2 and LR they succeed. If XIII-2 sold around 3 million WW and this one solds around 1'5-2 million WW will be an objective accomplished by SE.

It's clear that in SE, after XIV fiasco, they have been very cautious in spending cost in next games, and they decided to change their philosophy of making the biggest game possible for something more quick and rentable. I hate that form of opinion, I don't want 8/10 rating FF games...., I want 9/10 or 10/10 FF games. Seeing how FF XV looks and how well FF XIV ARR is doing i'm more confident SE will regain his original philosophy.

And with respect of Mario 3d world, i think is a more troubled situation for Nintendo that LR for SE..., just 100k for a main Mario game in Japan is way worse... and it's a sign that not only WiiU, but all home console consoles and games are dying in Japan....and it's a shame.

I think PS4 will suffer too, and better everybody not expect it to sell PS2 levels there..., i'm not even sure if it will even surpass PS3 levels...

Just a little perspective. So what now? It seems like shit just got real. WiiU is going nowhere in Japan this year and it seems like its a reality we will just have to accept.

Are you including digital sales here?

These are not full week sales (only 3 days), according to Famitsu Nintendo sold between 40%-60% of their initial shipment in 3 days (the situation is similar with Final Fantasy XIII-3 ). Therefore, I do not think the situation is all that bad. In terms of console sales, you must consider the fact that the Wii U hardware just got a major boost in Japan at the beginning of November thanks to Wii Party U and the new value bundles (sales prior to these bundles hovered around 3000) and I am sure the idea of Mario launching on the system in less than a month helped with the boost. Overall, considering Japan has transformed into a handheld dominant market, the Wii U console and Super Mario 3D World sales are just about where I expect them to be.
