At least One Piece did okay?

Basically that chart tells me that first week sales mean very little when it comes to Mario (see SM64, and SM 64 DS.) Not that Super Mario 3D World will have their level of success, but it will be successful enough, likely matching or surpassing Sunshine.
Wasn't the wii u under 10k last week, so it has doubled. Still poor sales granted but doubled week on week. And most people were predicting around 100k for mario in japan so not sure why you are so surprised?

Shipments of a product do not indicate the manufacturer's expectations. They indicate what the *retailers* expected the game to sell. Square could've expected 3m units first week and that wouldn't change shipments one bit because the retailers order the games. The retailers decide how big the first shipment is. All Square Enix could do would be sort of a take-back-unsold-copies approach to increase shipments but why would they do that?
Oh and on topic: 3D Mario is like beating a dead horse now. The market rejects it again and again and yet Nintendo keeps rubbing it into people's faces. That's how to effectively burn up your business!

SM64DS and M64 shouldn't really count though those were games on launch week for a new hardware, so naturally there will a supply constraint.
For example the N64 was completely sold out in Japan its first few weeks and Nintendo didn't ship a ton, so obviously Mario 64's adoption rate was initially held back by that.
Mario Sunshine, Mario Galaxy, and Mario 3D Land are proper comparables.

It's disastrous. Sold about 30% of the shipment.

From what I'm reading that's about 25% more than Taiko managed.
