RYSE IS THE BEST LOOKING AND MOST TECHNICALY IMPRESSIVE CONSOLE LAUNCH TITLE ON ANY MACHINE.

A game has to be higher than 27FPS, imo, to even be considered as such. There are alot of things that fall under the whole "graphics" tent and frames per second as well as resolution are two of them.

Imagine what KZ could look like if they cut the res down to 900p, drop the fps to 20-30, and made the game mroe linear and on rails....................

Open world shooter, real-time destructible environments VS linear CGI fest?

You must be joking or stupid. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Not really. It seemed ok to agree with DF when linear titles like Uncharted and TLOU were touted for amazing visuals last generation over games like Skyrim or Crysis 3. But now DF say Ryse is the best all of a sudden its changed????

CGI fest?

Where did you get that from? Its all rendered with in engine. And the scenes your talking about are actually not that many. Most cutscenes arent pre rendered in engine, but rendered on the hardware. Easy to tell because you have control of the character straight away often not realising the game has given you control before you realise it has. Its only when it blacks out that its Pre rendered. But those pre renders are still the same assests. Just more post processing. You can only really tell due to Boudicas hair.

"Unfortunately, that brings us to another disappointment; Crytek's stated commitment to "real-time, all the time" goes unrealised in Ryse with the move to pre-rendered cut-scenes. "

Oops? Guess you forgot to read the article.

Baked cutscenes - Check

Sub 30 FPS - Check

Sub 1080p - Check

Linear - Check

1080p/60fps aren't as important as you seem to want them to be.

I recently played the 360 and PS4 versions of COD and, it's huge. It's staggering actually. I was a part of the whole "next gen games don't look much better" group until now. The last gen now looks old to me, and it's something I can never unsee lol.

Plus, these are brand new consoles. If the games can't hit 1080P and 60FPS, we should ALL be pissed off. That's not accetable imo. Why upgrade? For skype? For playroom? Really? There's no point if the GAMES aren't significantly better looking and/or play better.

That's why I'm not upgrading, yet.  One of my highlights this year was playing Legend of Zelda:  Link's Awakening on 3DS

I was truly impressed by the game.  This is a graphics thread so I'll let you gurus have at it.  I appreciate a good image on screen as much as the next guy.  I even purchased three different HDTV's since 2007 in pursuit of the perfect image but lately, it hasn't mattered as much.  Later, dudes!

Why do so many of you CONTINUE to complain about games being linear...my goodness it just makes you sound silly.

WHO CARES if it is linear, I didn't care with UC123 or TLOU and those games looked AMAZING! So don't give Ryse slack for it! Just admit it looks good MOVE on and just let this silly argument go geez people...

The absence of evidence is NOT the evidence of absence...

Digital Foundry dont make a statement that one is better than the other unless its technically superior.

With Ryse you seem also to be leaving the bit out where they categorically state:

""That said, if you really want a taste of what we can expect from the next generation of consoles, Ryse towers over the rest."

Not on Xbox One. Its very clear Next Generation of Consoles.

I was checking out the Eurogamer review to see what all this fuss was about, happened on this little tidbit in the comment section:

@John Linneman, so on neoGAF you said:
I do think Killzone Shadowfall is the best looking launch title between the two, though, but Ryse is definitely second place for me.
LINK

but here it's:
That said, if you really want a taste of what we can expect from the next generation of consoles, Ryse towers over the rest.
Care to explain what you mean?

Towers of the rest after KZ FS I guess.

Ryse is way more on rails and limited in well, everything. Not to mention the lower resolution and poor frame rate, pre-rendered cutscenes.

Uncharted was on 7 year old hardware 5 times weaker.....Great comparison. There is a heck of a lot more AI (Ryse's is horrid), effects and moving parts on screen in UC then ryse.

Again, it takes massive sacrifices for x1 to put out these visuals, all  well documented.

Uncharted is also a great game, ryse isn't.

Nice shifting goal posts. So games like Uncharted are immune to this criticism because they are (in your opinion) not as "on rails and linear" as Ryse. Again, I am saying you would create magic loopholes for Uncharted, you reply proving me exactly right. Thanks.

Oh and by the way, what's with this "bad frame rate" talk? Did you see the DF frame rate analysis video? The only time it went to 16 was during a non playable cut scene and the only time it fluctuates from the 26-32 frame rate are during executions, which are again, non-playable. It seems you're confused as to what a bad frame rate is.

Lastly, all games with great graphics require sacrifices. Ryse took a resolution hit, a game like Shadow Fall took a frame rate hit. And so on and so forth.

Christ you guys must all be 12. Need I remind you that we still have people arguing whether the original Xbox or Gamecube had better graphics, lol. You're NEVER going to win. Seriously. Never.

Digital Foundry says Killzone Shadow Fall is the best looking launch title. See thread here =>
