Also the buttons aren't clicky enough. Still to cushiony or springy. But overall much better from Sony. |
You do realize the only reason Microsoft and Nintendo went for "offset" analog sticks were because Sony had a patent on symmetrical analog sticks until 2005 right? I don't think Nintendo's phobia of symmetry disappearing with the Wii onwards was a coincidence.
You're entitled to your opinion, just throwing that out there.

The reasoning doesn't matter, the fact is it's more natural. looking back to the origin of controller history. The D-pad was the primary means of navigating charaters through thee game world. they were set yp to be on the same liner area as the buttons to feel simitry while playing. When sony made the playstaysion controller, I don't think they were sure that the stick would take over the d-pad as the primary use on the controller. The N64 shows the same concept that in order to use the joy stick you would have to adjust the way you hold the controller, the D-pad on that was also designed as the primary Navigator, and the stick was secondary.
So sony jumped the gun on their pattent. that design comes from a time frame were games navigated with the d-pad was more plentyful and thaks to the patent they are still basically designed that way in a world were the d pad doesn't get much use.
Naturaly. in fighting games the ps4 controller would feel better because fighting games have not evovled much and are still played by most people with the d-pad. so On the xbox systems, fighters are awkward to play because the d-pad is in the secondary navigating possition. Everything else feels natural because the stick is in the primary position.
In short, they really should thank sony for that patent. it was one of those classic bad moves of a video game company.
