lmao... and the rest of the article says...

They also anticipate a large waiting list for Microsoft Corp. (MSFT)’s Xbox One, suggesting a prolonged industry sales slump is ending.

Sony said on Nov. 17 it sold more than 1 million PlayStation 4 consoles in the U.S. and Canada within 24 hours of the $399 machine going on sale. The figure included some of the 1 million units Tokyo-based Sony presold on a global basis, said Dan Race, a PlayStation spokesman.

Microsoft’s $499 Xbox One goes on sale tomorrow in 13 countries and also is expected to be in high demand after a seven-year drought on new home consoles from the two companies. Nintendo Co. (7974)’s Wii U is entering its second year of sales.

GameStop fell 6.5 percent to $49.04 at 11:50 a.m. in New York after dropping as much as 11 percent, the biggest intraday decline since May. The company forecast fourth-quarter profit of $1.97 to $2.14 a share, less than the $2.16 average of 20 analysts’ estimates compiled by Bloomberg.

The retailer, which accounts for more than half of Sony and Microsoft’s video-game software sales, will benefit from the console transition based on its ability to lure gamers who trade in older titles and hardware for discounts on new gear, said Colin Sebastian, an analyst at Robert W. Baird & Co. in San Francisco. He recommends buying the stock.

This thread is about the PS4, not the Xbox One.

Stop trying to steer it off-topic.

MS is going to sell a minimum of 60 million consoles this gen ... that is a significant minimum portion of the market.

Fact is they have the best marketing team in the business, they have the highest brand appeal in the US, they are very smart in tying their brand to the NFL (Sony may attract more "nerd" gamers, but they are outnumbered by the "jocks" in the US) and simply put they make more money as a company in 3 months than Sony has in 10+ years.

The battle in the West will be more like the SNES vs. the Genesis, this is not going to be a cakewalk for Sony, MS will make them sweat and if they decide to start opening their wallet, possibly bleed too. It's going to be a very competetive generation ... which is just fine IMO ... that's good for consumers.

They better hope to sell another 40m in the US then, cuz nobody is going to buy that much in the rest of the world where half the casual features don't work.

No One Guide
No Live Tv
Voice Commands not available in 8 launch countries
No NFL, or anykind of football for that matter
Won't work in countries that are imported to

No offense but Sony fanboys are dreaming if they think the PS2 era is coming back (I have picked the PS4 to win worldwide though).

XBox is a much stronger competitor today than it was 10 years ago, they are the defacto "hardcore" gaming brand in the US and have the best marketing (sorry, Sony, take a seat) machine behind them.

last gen xbox was cheaper, came out first, had the better third party versions of most games and still couldnt beat the ps3.

this gen its more expensive, third party games are better on ps4, its coming out at the same time.

how do you expect them to stand a chance?

PS4's doing 100m guaranteed, the question is is xbox one even beating the 360? I think not.

their only hope is to ditch kinect and undercut the ps4, even then I doubt they would get 100m.

Fact is they have the best marketing team in the business

If that were true, why did the original Xbox fail so hard? I seem to remember ads before the damn SUPER BOWL before it launched, and how did THAT work out? Nothing MS has ever done has been as good as the Kevin Butler ads...nothing.

Honestly too the XB1 launch lineup for actual GAMES is clearly better than the PS4. Forza, Killer Instinct, Dead Rising 3, Rhyse > Killzone and Knack.

Saying XB1 launch line up is better then ps4 it's totally objective, and xbox360 was a strong competitor becuase it launched a year and half before ps3 and was less expensive and multiplatform was superior xbox one don't have any of this adventage.

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

wow - nice figures. And that is just gamestop...imagine what the total backlog is.

I find this amazing, given the fact I walked into EBGames/Gamestop PS4 launch day at 11AM and picked up a PS4 without a preorder or reservation.

Well at least you agree, it is objectively better.  I agree with that too.

I agree with that too. Those Ryse scores just killed their last hope. Damn those salty PS4 fanboys.
