I told one of them I was getting Arkham City on the Wii U and I got laughed at. Anyway, I asked each one of them, on different occasions, what are they buying for their new console. All of them said Call of Duty. One of them wrongly believed that he'd be playing Call of Duty on his PS4 against people that own it on PS3. I quit arguing with him. I'm sure he's learned the truth by now. What the heck? I just don't see the point of buying a new console now just to play the exact same game. I'm looking forward to Friday like it's Christmas come early because I NEED that new Mario game. NSMBU didn't do it for me at all. When the newer consoles offer compelling content, I'll upgrade and not a day before. Power doesn't equal fun. It never has. |
So if someone were to ask you 'Why did you buy the Wii U?' I'm sure you would most likely say 'to play nintendo games'. I dont see how you can view their purchases as embarassing when you are essentially doing the same thing. That new mario game took a year to come out, I'm sure in a years time there will be that new Halo or that Gran Tursmio and people will have the same reactions as you (in that they would need it). Those games prove (by being popular through multiple generations) that the PS4/XboxO has games can live off games that dont need power to be fun. COD is not a graphics beater by any stretch, its a funish arcade shooter.

You misunderstand me. I wasn't saying it's embarrassing that he wants an Xbox One. I'm saying that his behavior is embarrasing. You have to see him to see what I mean, I guess. Yeah, I bought my Wii U the day it came out and there definitely was a drought before I finally began to appreciate the system. I was excited about the games, though. They let me down in quality (still fun but not what I expected) but they still offered experiences that I couldn't find elsewher. For the PS3 and Xbox One, there are games like Killzone, Knack, Dead Rising, Forza, etc. If that's what floats your boat, more power to you. The guys I'M talking about are buying the new hardware just to play Call of Duty! They already own those games. One of them (The Xbox One guy) has never even played online!
So I'm not begruding anybody that makes the upgrade. It's just that, for me, I'm not buying them just to own the newest thing (this time. I bought a Vita and Wii U on day one, mind you). I'm waiting until the software matches my tastes. Meanwhile, my most played games in recent weeks has been Plants vs. Zombies on the 3DS (DSi Ware title). The Xbox One and PS4 will offer graphics the Wii U will likely never match pretty early on. That doesn't automatically make their experiences more fun.
*edit* Oh, I got laughed at for getting Arkham Origins on Wii U because, according to one of them, "I needed to upgrade".
