Forums - Nintendo - I think a Wii U redesign is coming next year

If they redesign the gamepad to be smaller and lighter I'll swap mine over for sure.

I think so too, this desing is expensive as it is.

"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

Nope.

The only thing you'll MAYBE see is a new version with larger storage, more colors.

However, there will be new bundles and lower prices I'm sure.

simply.  newp

They better add some real HDD size on this thing cause 8GB and 32GB is some real bull

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Maybe with more internal storage for people who live in countries where they don't have USB hard drives, do you have them in the US?

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

IKR despite games being only a few gigs.

I've been saying for a long time that the gamepad will shrink and a cost reduced wii u will come out. I saw a child using the gamepad in store and it was just too large for the child and for a console aimed at a younger audience this is clearly not ideal. I'm not sure the chipset will shrink to 28nm. I think the wii u already runs cool enough with no reliability problems and 28nm is a more expensive process. I certainly expect fabrication to shrink in time but only when 28nm becomes cheap when a better fabrication process replaces it like 22nm.

It wouldn't surprise me if a wired gamepad became available or at least a gamepad with a wired option.

I think Nintendo are going to be forced to a very low price point for wii u and so the console will need to be cost reduced even further. Maybe even a top loader design?

I'd like to see the smaller gamepad charge on the main console as an option.

I can see it, yeah. Iwata mentioned they are working on getting the cost of components down, to me it indicates they may be pushing for a much cheaper price point sensing that the market is not reacting to the console favorably. They need to get this thing down to $199.99 as quickly as possible.

I agree too, the gamepad is too large for kids, it looks almost comical sometimes when a kid is using it.

Good points on the 28nm thing, it may be too expensive for now.

I don't see storage size being changed for a while, it will just add to the cost. Top loader I could see if it saves them money.

How long did it take for the second model of the Wii to come out?  That black model that they took out the backwards compatability.

I think it was like 2010-ish, but to correct you there are black Wiis that retain Gamecube BC and controller/memory card ports. Have one myself. (never thought I'd stumble across a bigger fringerprint magnet than the original PS3, mind you)

But that's besides the point, the Wii didn't need a redesign at this point. Hence the PS3 being redesigned far quicker than the PS1 and PS2. I can see how it'd come into play for the Wii U.

Sounds good would be nice if it actually happens.
