Forums - Gaming - PS4 Launch: From one store's Perspective( BLACK FRIDAY Update)

Sounds like complete BS to me.

How can poeple who didn't even preorder the console just decide to drop whatever they are doing and jump in line for something they;

A) had no intent of buying.
B) Made no provisions for buying (nobody buys a £$400 console out of the blue, just like nobody jumps in line to buy the next iphone when they see a qeu forming outside the apple store)
C) Stores should honor whatever limited stock they have for people who actually preordered the console...

Well people are bringing in trades on a regular basis. Many have been coming in to get rid of their older consoles in preperation regardless. Also some were their to pick up a PS4 without reserving, they just didn't realize it would be so hard to do.

Case in Point: We had a girl come in just to get rid of her old PS3 and X360, with a ton of games. We explained to her that with the credit she was getting she could get a bonus 30% if put towards another pre-owned product or select items........PS4 is one of those select items.  With the credit she had she had enough to pay one off pretty much. So she hopped in the line lol.

We were not allowed to let ppl know exactly how many extra we had. No one was ever promised that they had one for them(unless they reserved one). We did want to let them know we did have  extra tho, we just kept refering to it as "a few" or "limited amount".

People really will jump on a bandwagon like that. They want to feel like they are in the loop so they will latch on to something like this. Like i said in OP, most of our clientel is Military, well off middle class. They have the money to buy whatever they want from our store.

And as to your last sensence, we did honor our policy. If you reserve something you have 48hrs to pick it up after it is released. After that someone can purchase what we had for your reserve and you have to wait till next shipment. You do not lose your deposit or anything, The reason that is is that anyone can put down $5 to place a reserve....but never pick it up. Every store has limited space and we can't be replenished on anything until our existing stock is gone. Imagine.....we have a stock room full of PS4s waiting for pick up. We still have to make room for XBO this coming week. What are we suppose to do if we have product that could sell right now but we can't because its reserved?

Being supply constrained is great PR, the Wii was even hotter due to being out of stock all the time. People love to get a sense of purchasing something exclusive, allthough in a twist of irony, that mentality leads to items selling a lot and thus becoming the very opposite of exclusive!

Anyway, nice read, I wonder what the second week drop will be, or even the full first week sales.

Exactly. I worked Wii Launch and remember the craze vividly. People...who knew absolutely nothing about video games/consoles saw that EVERYONE ELSE wanted one so they wanted one. It also helped that normal news stations televised the Wii as this revolution of gaming that would have your kids exercising, having fun,and bring the family together for it. Soccer Moms came in droves for the thing. The thing was always out of stock, and the difficulty of getting your hands on one made many want it even more.

We are really hoping Sony (and soon MS) come through on their ability to keep stores stocked for the Holiday. Sony has already said they got 1M sold on day one. From my experience on launch and the last few days....if they sent us the exact same amount of stock as what we had for reserves we could sell through that too(I imagine the same everywhere) meaning 2-3million in one week WW. Mind you this is also only US sales, once the system is released in EU it has the potential for a lot more.

They do, but their is a catch....

You have to use a credit card to activate the free trial.

After the 30 Days PS+ sets you up for the MONTHLY fee of $9.99!!!!!!

You can always cancel it before the limit but the whole purpose of those trials is preying on ppl's laziness/forgetfulness.

Its safer and cheaper to go with the $50 a year charge.

yes, unless it was a special edition/collectors item. Anything that is easily replinished really. Most if not all places will have this same policy. Unless they are some kind of really huge megastore that can hold stuff like this indefinitely.

There $400 will still be there, and when we get more in, there starts another 48hr cycle.
