Forums - Nintendo - 3DS Miiverse Won’t Support Message Exchange Between Friends Or Friend Requests

Still working the in-s and outs of my 3ds. Just seems Nintendo is really big on big brother censorship....also its online structure leave much to be desired.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

So....what's the god damned point in even having it in the first place?

Use it like a mini-forum.

FYI, you pokemon team is only 5.....competitive teams tend to have 6 ;)

So can be Miiverse on 3DS, I don't see the point.

Maybe but if they moderate on 3DS messages will be subject to delay even more so then the Wii U which defeats the purpose of it being portable, it's really only meant to be a mobile version tbh. The Swap Note incident was a very strong one so I can see why they left it out of the 3DS version.

What was the incident, I'm interested.

Won't go into too much detail, basically in Japan predators were grooming underage girls and exchanging pictures of them through Swap Note with in their little ring sometimes they'd have the girls themselves send them a picture to pass around, it's the driving force that lead to Swap Note being terminated.

Doesn't that work with e-mail too? I don't understand what makes Swapnote special in this and why this is a reason to sutdown the service? Is it easier to reach the girls this way? It's hard to think so, as they have to exchange friend-codes.

No, that would be bad parenting, and Nintendo poking its nose where it doesn't belong and trying to be one.

Err yes their noses do belong there as it's their service, look at how sites like FB and other social sites are now days getting pulled for not moderating them, it's exactly what they want to avoid.

It allowed much easier access to the girls, yes the girls were already in contact in order to exchange FCs but after it was a field day, people exchange FCs with out question now days anyway. Shutting down the service is not an extreme measure as remember those online chats rooms in the 90s were shut for similar reasons. People can do the same on Emails true although 3DS is a more tricky prospect to argue that on, it's a PR nightmare and they'd rather do away with the app then try to regulate it.

Wow, now I hope that mobile shares thing regarding Nintendo doesn't result in them making phones.

A phone without text messaging would be terrible.

* it's a joke!

Hey, I wouldn't mind it but that is coming from a person that blocks text and internet (I still can use WiFi if I want to).  I suppose my age is showing every day.  I hate texting with a passion.

Yeah, I can see why they did it, but it does suck a bit. Hope it won't downgrade the experience too much, if they can get people more vested in Miiverse with the 3DS as a side app it might get better support to upgrade more of its features.
