What would be the point? Make them incur even bigger losses on each console sold?
The console comes packed with 3 games and other stuff over there and goes for 320usd, Nintendo was in a position to lower the price in the west because of the weakening yen, which helps the economy as export goods bring in more yens to Japan when the exchange rate goes down, as Japanese companies report in yens and not in USD.
With an exchange rate of 80:1 and selling a WiiU for 350 USD, Nintendo received 28000 yens. Right now selling a WiiU for 300 in the West, at an exchange rate of 100:1, Nintendo receives 30000 yen which is MORE than before the pricecut due to a favourable exch rate.
Nintendo will not cut the price in Japan for a very very very long time. That wold be atrocious. They rathwr stop selling the console over there as its draining their reserves down with the losses both HW and SW generate
