It seems the largest argument against using motion controls in a game is that it isn't practical. That might be true for some types of games, but there are genres where it really shines. It can really improve the input and enjoyment of games when it works well.

I remember really enjoying The Godfather on the Wii in ways that wouldn't be possible otherwise. Sure, you could just push a button, but physically grabbing someone and slamming them into a wall is much more gratifying.

I don't remember Nintendo doing much with the motion controller. Hell, their best game(Smash Bros Brawl) didn't even use the motion controls. With most of their games it either hurt the experience(Skyward Sword) or was completely unnecessary(Mario Kart Wii). Honestly, all I ever wanted out of the Wii was an awesome lightsaber game. I never got it.

this... I think they  had a rule at lucasarts where they are only allowed to make jedi games if your use of a saber is controlled and non bloody... open world where i could swing away with a light saber ... i would have worn that out till my arms were sore.... mixed controller and motion.. use controller for menues and crap and the motion for lightsaber swinging .... (i think my dream would be kotor mixed with just cause 2 and saints row 2 and some motion control for the lightsaber) .... or an unrelated gamae just lightsaber battles online ... but motion control needs to get better  ... edit also feedback will always be an issue here... controlers may not be great at it, but its not needed as much with a button vs a movment you need to react to

also i hated wii bowling, my real bowling throw always guttered in that game, while i may not be great at bowling i can get into the 140s.

This game is literally in my top 10 of last gen for this reason alone. The motion controls made the game so much much more enjoyable and I really wished the second game had some way of utilizing them.

That game was a gem on the Wii

I have my fingers crossed for this to pick up. Nintendo seems to be backing away from it, which is a shame as they had the most success last generation. The switch to the GamePad is a step backwards for this. Sony's rumoured headset combined with the Move sounds like it has a lot of potential. MS have gone all-in with the Kinect, so they must have more planned, but it will be more limited without physical buttons.

Everyone has something, so I don't think motion control is going anywhere.

What I don't get is why people are telling me that I have to like Wii Bowling with motion controls or I'm afraid of change.

How about this--maybe I don't like bowling with motion controls all that much? Is that okay with everyone? Is there a reason why I have to like it?

Not everyone likes motion controls. Deal with it. No, it doesn't mean they have to be fat or lazy, that's just people attacking anyone who likes something different than they like, which is sad.

I've played motion controlled games and, for the most part, I didn't like them very much. The two big exceptions for me were Killzone 3, which did an awesome job, and Portal 2. Just as often, though, there were games like Resistance 3, which wasn't nearly as good as KZ3.

Regardless, these are the kinds of games I like, and they happen to work really well with a standard controller or a mouse/keyboard. Why that would bother anyone, I have no idea.

i think people are bothered because the motion thing fizzled pretty fast adn the ones who loved it need someone to blame. But IMHO anyone who played the Wii when it first came out and really played with the wiimote would have realized just how limited it was and just how poorly it would work for a lot of "core" games(and hell even dance games) and see that it was always going to fall off

man so much just plan wrong, First off the motion controls for Wii sucked, period. It was evident since WiiSports. on rails tennis, a boxing game that was inaccurate as hell. THe controls were limited. What genres do hardcore gamers play that could really benefit from motion controls? lets get real. Better yet what games coudl have benefitted from the Wiimote? limited as it was. ALl i can think is FPSs and the ones that Wii did get were mediocore on average.

As for Move dont know where you been at. Infamous2, FoB, Killzone3, Resistance3, LBP2, Spiderman, Bioshock, that Dawn game, Datura, hot shots golf, goldeneye, child of eden, portal2, sorcery, the fight, time crisis, housed of the dead, socom, ghost recon. thats just what comes to mind.

Someone hasn't heard of Skyward Sword.

YOu mean the game that requires an EXTRA add on for it to work? Yeah i bought it its ok

The problem with the Move is that it works in every game by replacing a classic function with motion.
you can use WiiMpte Plus on all those tons of Wii games you mentioned.

If you want more accurency then WiiMote Plus, then just buy something with 6-Axis Motion Sensors, like the Wii U (because the GamePad has 6-Axis sensors as do the PS Move as well).

no you cant, the Wiimote plus has TERRIBLE support, hell it has less compatible games than either Kinect OR Move despite selling more and being out longer, but im not surprised, Ninty doesnt have a great track record of supporting their addons.

There are a few instances in which Motion Controls worked better than a standard button format (Metroid Prime 3 springs to mind as the first example), but the problem is that a fair bit of work needs to be done in order to get motion controls to work effectively. While it sounds simple enough (point at the screen and the thing moves), due to all motion control formats lacking buttons, certain functions that would have to have been programmed to buttons now have to be assigned to motion control functions, and doing that intuitively and in a non-gimmicky way is difficult.

There's also the fact that motion controls, despite how far they've come, just are flat out not as reliable as a standard controller scheme (unless the motion controls involve pointing at the sensor bar and nothing else). People reference Skyward Sword, which is arguably one of the best example of motion control working. But that's the thing, even in one of the best examples of motion control working, I would argue that Skyward Sword's sword swinging mechanic will still give you an incorrect input about once every 20 or so tries; a 95% success rate. And this is one of the best instances of motion controlling in a game.

Buttons (unless they break) work 100% of the time. There's a drop in reliability, it's difficult to build a control scheme around it, and if you're developing a game for the other two consoles, which don't have Wii remote style controls (or, at least, didn't until the PS Move), it's hard to port a well done version of that over to a completely new control scheme. With the Wii's generally poor sales for third party titles, the sales factor could be enough by itself to convince people to not try anything new in terms of motion control.

PIkmin 3. Best motion controls. Put Skyward Sword to shame. The Wii remote+ nunchuck set up sort of mimmics keyboard and mouse set up, with awesome IR pointer controls that cant be matched

Red Steel 2 as well.

+Plus remote Came out in 2010. Wii got its last first party games put out in 2011.

Logic brah.

Whats all this Wii Sports hate? The only thing that was a bitch to master was Boxing. Lol.
