Macronix reportedly lands large-volume ROM orders from Nintendo

NOR flash supplier Macronix International is expected to see its sales gain momentum in the third quarter of 2014, buoyed by increasing orders for ROM chips from Nintendo, according to industry sources.

Macronix has begun producing ROM chips using a 45nm process, with 45nm chips now accounting for 60% of its total ROM products, said the sources.

Macronix has also started shipping 4Gb and 8Gb ROM/NOR flash hybrid chips and plans to step into the 32Gb segment shortly.

The company's capex budget for 2014 is set at NT$2.5-2.6 billion (US$83.43-86.76 million), but the amount may be higher as Macronix plans to migrate to the production of 36nm NAND flash chips, revealed the sources.

Macronix posted a net loss of NT$1.29 billion, or NT$0.36 per share, in the first quarter of 2014.


This seems interesting, I wonder if it is related to the QoL platform or the console for emerging markets. Unless I'm completely oblivious to how the chip can be use, and it is just something small that will end up being used in the Amiibos :P

Macronix provides the 3DS game carts for Nintendo.  This is related to the increase in cart production for the impending launch of Smash Bros. for 3DS.

Finally downloaded Shovel Knight & Guacamelee, though I dunno if I'll be able to play too much of them since I'm currently binging on Skyrim xD

Btw, when the heck is Netflix going to release an update on Wii U? The thing is a glitchy mess now, and doesn't even support profiles yet :/

You as well? Nice! Where exactly are you/what are you doing on it?

Also yeah Netflix on Wii U is pretty poor. Though we still need TVii here...
