Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Brilliant article on why Mario Galaxy is game of the generation

Tagged games:

Yeah read that one earlier in the day, even though I liked SMG2 better, SMG one is where is started so I guess it makes sense. There was never any doubt in my mind that the best 7th gen console game series were the SMGs though, and this is coming from the guy who loves Uncharted and The Last of Us.

I never in a million years expected a 3D Mario to be the arguably greatest game of the generation. Both 64 and Sunshine fell flat on me. Then the Galaxy games came along and took both top spots. Somehow, they ended up with the most artistically impressive visuals and the best audio of the generation, along with the finest gameplay the 3D platformer genre has seen.

It will be tremendously interesting to see if Nintendo can produce something equally fantastic with 3D World. Personally, I'm expecting more of a Zelda development from here. Absolutely fantastic games, and by most means better than the "golden" game of the franchise (OoT for Zelda) , but never managing to be quite as terrifically engaging.

The game was indeed something magical. I'd do anything to experience it for the first time all over again.

I need to go back and 100% complete it some day.

Super Mario Galaxy is indeed a masterpiece. Music, art direction, level design, controls, even storytelling are all outstanding.

I would place BioShock slightly above it in terms of "game of the generation," but that doesn't take anything away from Galaxy.

Would you kindly retract your last statement? You are a good poster, so you don't have to feign anything.

Bioshock is the game of the generation

OT: As someone who doesn't care that much about Mario in general (aside from his RPGs), Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 are truly amazing games. Galaxy is by far my favorite 3D Mario game.

Completely agreed! To me, this is the game of the generation. I remember playing the game straight for well over 24 hours. Did everything in Galaxy and even got a message/certificate sent to my Wii console for it.

The gameplay, level design, scope, soundtrack, and overall atmosphere made it one of my favorite games. Definitely deserves GOTG!

I absolutely love the SMG games. I actually just started playing SMG 2 as it was on my back catalog. I'm currently at 87 stars on it. Great games.

the first had the magic but the second brought perfection

I love them both but the second had so much more I prefer it over the first

@bolded:  No, he won't.

OT:  Nevertheless, both Galaxy games are true masterpieces.  Easily two of the best games ever made in any generation.

Such a masterpiece and deserve a 3 or 2.5 in HD on wiiU before call it off.

Switch!!!

As a Wii owner who doesnt own SMG. Is it worth buying?
