I totally hope that happens. I want to see Microsoft pushed back to beeing almost irrelevant. I feel they brought many destructive/greedy practices to the market that has been costing us consumers and publishers/developers and will continue to do so. I do hope the Wii U picks up though (it already is tbh). I would be very pleased with a Sony/Nintendo only market. Microsoft can go back to beeing 3rd party or focus on phones or something. Thats where their pet rival Apple is afterall.

Personally, I loved my Xbox 360. I was a Nintendo kid since the Nes and there isn't a piece of Sony hardware released that I don't own. The only Microsoft console I've ever owned was the 360 and it was pretty awesome. It brought a lot to the table and because it was able to go toe to toe with Sony, it brought out the best in both companies. Netflix was an Xbox thing, online community, built in hard drives , achievements, DLC (for better or worse)--these were all things that Microsoft pushed. Sure, many would have come about anyway but Microsoft lead the charge.
What would you consider their greedy practices? DLC? It was a great idea but got corrupted by 3rd parties first. Moneyhatting? Even before the original Xbox came out, Microsoft said that Sony would moneyhat titles so they couldn't get a lot of what they wanted (it's in a 2000 issue of EGM with the Xbox on the cover--read it a few months ago). Nintendo was the one during the Nes/Super Nes days that wouldn't let companies release games for competitors OR let them release games in a competing genre when their titles were about to come out OR let them release too many games in a certain amount of time. Censorship, too. This was when they were dominant and companies had no choice but to follow Nintendo's rules. Expensive peripherals? This was an industry standard looooong before Microsoft ever considered jumping into the console gaming business.
I have a Wii U too. Love it. Hope everybody buys it.

What were the results of pushing a generation early? I really really dislike having to debate this but here we go then.
Payed online play, DLC, pushing a generation of gaming before the market was ready leading to increasing development costs and bankrupting of several companies. Season passes, online passes, day one patches and almost enforced digital only. All things ushered in by microsoft. In my view they are a company that does not care about their customers and giving them a fair service. I felt nickle and dimed by microsoft throughout this whole generation ending now at the point where i will never again buy a microsoft console. I regret having ever supported them cause even when Sony was beeing arrogant with the PS3, they never stooped so low.
Microsoft in a nuttshell, nickle and dimes us, destroyed countless job stations and funneled us to a shooter only market, with no variety, wich in my opinion risks a crash when people get tired of so many FPS games. Microsoft is destructive, and i would rather not see things get worse.
