Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony PS4 runs hotter than PS3 (updated!!)

a) So why did they de-rate the temperature? there is no reason to drop the usable operating temperature unless its running hot?

b) A typical device runs has a maximum at 45-55 degrees C.

c) Why would a company REDUCE this temperature if their device could work at the most commonly used ranges?

d) Also why would they also include asoftware cut-out when the temperature rises slightly above this?

a) Go read a PS3 manual or download one. It says Operating Temperature: 5deg C - 35deg C. So stop writing rubbish.

b) What the hell is a "typical device"? I can assure you that some parts of the PS4 may run considerably hotter than 55 deg C under certain conditions

c) They didn't. Just read a PS3 manual, as in a). And who in the hell would run their PS4 in a room > 40deg C? (it would still work, probably, just with rocket sound from the ventilator).

d) To protect the PS4 from overheating??? And no, it doesn't stop when the temperature is above 35deg C. It stops when the APU temperature gets too hot, probably around 80-90 deg C....

That entire post could be replied to with just "Improved engineering and design since the release of the PS3 slim". Seriously, you're just spitting theory and personal analysis. Cerny and the FCC are saying other-wise.

Re-read what you're stating, man. You're saying that the PS3 wasn't meant to be operated in areas of temperatures under 45C (113F). That cuts out the majority of markets for the product.

What's being stated by the FCC and Cerny is the heat inside the device, not the room temperature requirements.

4 ≈ One

OP is so desperate to convince us that the PS4 will have overheating issues it's literally cringe-worthy. Telling lies won't make us want a Xbox Nidan, so please just stop because it's embarrassing at this point.

NOnonononononono. EXACTLY the opposite. Don't you people read?
Once again for the slow learners: The FCC doesn't give a shit how hot it gets inside your gadget. If it blows during testing due to heat, you failed by default.

Operating temperature 5-35C means: The FCC has to test the gadget within 5-35C of ambient air temperature. The FCC CANNOT test the gadget at -273C or 99C and then say: "booooooo - it failed".

Nuh uh stoopid. Everyone has their house at 130 degrees.... dont they? I mean... when outside temp is 100 degrees colder in the winter everyone has their heat blasting. Thats why the bills are thousands of dollars each month... arent they?
