A typical device runs has a maximum at 45-55 degrees C.

Why would a company REDUCE this temperature if their device could work at the most commonly used ranges?

Also why would they also include asoftware cut-out when the temperature rises slightly above this?

Re-read what you're stating, man. You're saying that the PS3 wasn't meant to be operated in areas of temperatures under 45C (113F). That cuts out the majority of markets for the product.

What's being stated by the FCC and Cerny is the heat inside the device, not the room temperature requirements.
