Forums - Gaming - Pre-launch Interest In Sony PS4 Is Twice Higher Than Xbox One

bananaking21 said:

Interestingly though, it turns out that neither console may be as popular as Sony and Microsoft have hoped – with only 12% of consumers considering both platforms, this indicates that much of the interest is coming from platform loyalists only, with few casual gamers paying much attention so far.

That would imply the opposite if anything. What kind of casual spends $1200 to own all console hardware?
They stick with one and leave it at that.

Although, that said, casuals don't really show up at lauch, or within a system's first two years of life really to begin, so this is both a really unfair new standard they're throwing on these consoles, and a really ridiculous one with pre-orders the biggest in industry history.

Second half of the penultimate paragrpaph sums it up well. Early adopters are fans...

Who knew Playstation had more vociferous and loyal fans that will jump in early? Shocker.

The long game is very different.

Everything you've said is at odds with what happened last gen.

Well everybody knows playsation is for games and entertainment is also a bonus. Others have some FPS rehash and some generic racers. Look at this year. Sly 4, God of war ascension, the last of us, beyond two souls, puppeteer, rain, gt6 and many more. People can differentiate which is for games and which is for apps. Why not get the best system (PS4)? Plus ps+ is most most attractive online service ever.

You mean like you're doing right now? If the One sells more, the One has better sales, and if the PS4 sells more, and PS4 has better sales, period, stop being a preemptive sore lose by trying to raise the bar for what constitutes a real victory for PS4.

If you were smart (and you can't be all that smart considering how ready you are to be a butthurt corporate lapdog on the internet 24/7), you'd focus on North America where things are going to be a lot closer.

Like this gen showed?

''Jumping in early'' was the only reason Xbox stayed competitive for as long as it did.

It's never a done deal, and we can never underestimate how much $ MS are prepared to throw at a project. Just takes a few good key games and they can definitely improve sales….

But at the moment, there is nothing to suggest (and no evidence of that) that the early adopters will suddenly fall away leaving some massive casual market who will pick up the XboxOne instead. With the performance of the XboxOne being called into question and the question of cost ($100 being a big issue).. there is no reason to suggest that the PS4 will not outsell the Xbox for most of the year as the PS3 did, and with the price difference, no reason to suggest that MS have the ability to undercut Sony at the Xmas sales period and continue that advantage.

It is a long game and last time out, MS were found definitely wanting in the long game in terms of games, so not sure why this time it will be any different. Sony continued to make games, MS decided not to. Sony caught up with MS.

Though some would suggest that it's just rabid crazy sony fans wanting to buy the console, I think there is a lack of awareness of how MS royally screwed up.. and comes across as a company wanting to nickel and dime their customers for every single little thing.. and many gamers appear to have decided that's not what they want. Some will continue to stick their head in the sand and defend their console of choice, but ultimately sales will prove otherwise.

The only depressing thing is that any small victory will be seized upon like this generation. Oh well at least the consoles are out soon, and at least that will answer some questions.

I cannot wait for the launches and see some hard sales data finally on these two in the coming months. Fun times on VGChartz.

it will be great. whats amazing is that meltdowns will happen however sales go, so we are guranteed some quality entertaiment.

Really?  I can only see one or scenario where that will happen.  Its pretty much accepted and expected than the PS4 wins by 2:1 absolute minimum in the launch window isnt it? .... or are we doing some front end softening on the the expectation already, just in case?

your posts are marvelous today, keep up the good work.

That is his usual tactic, trying to make people accept whatever words he put into their mouth first.

And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

You do know that sony has never released a "video game console". It's always been a "entertainment system" from playststion  to Ps4. Calling it the best system is subjective. sales do not matter a launch, maybe for bragging rights. but thats it. Long way to go till the end of this generation. and in the end console sales will not matter, it's always about software sales, which 360 killed the ps3 in. People say COD sucks, yet it sells over 10 milliom on both consoles. Why? because its fun. The last of us is praised everywhere as one of the ,if not the best exclusive, it cant break 4 million in sales.Ps owners dont invest in the system like xbox owners do. Maybe this generation they will. I'm getting both because i play games. Thats all that should matter.

Well, when you're on a place that deals primarily in sales data sort of the equivalent of the Copa Libertadores.

Well if Xbone do better than PS4 then it will be exciting times

I just care with Libertadore when my team is playing it... or trying to get into

Personally I could careless who outsells who as long as the PS4 gets great games (I'll end up buying One down the road as well), but if the One does manages to outsell PS4, I'm going to join GAF topurposely watch for the hilarity that will follow
