Lol. If you are a gamer then you wont bother with sales number or review score. I get niche and different type of games in ps3, which is not available in any other system. I dont care if the last of us sells less than COD. I got to play games that I want. That is most important. I dont bother wheather a generic game sells 10 million or 15 million.
I'm just excited for new consoles, I'm going to get the PS4 first and then an X1 down the road just because I've been a Halo fan all of my life. I definitely think the PS4 is a better console and sony has better exclusives, but I think they'll both be great consoles and hopefully the competition will bring out the best in each other. My only gripe with Microsoft is their exclusive games which will hopefully pick up this upcoming generation.

| kowenicki said: Really? you and others re-writing history again. We all agree the PS3 had a ridiculous price and horrible launch line up right? and yet....
Hardware sold in first three months (launch window) in each region: US PS3: 868k 360: 791k
Europe PS3: 936k (march launch) 360: 864k (holiday launch)
Japan PS3: 617k 360: 110k
Totals: PS3: 2.4m 360: 1.8m
So you dont think that Sony fans were quick off the mark in supporting their console, the TRUTH is that they did it last gen DESPITE the negative launch and high price. So it sint at odds, its exactly what I said. Dont mention it... |
PS2 had a much larger console fanbase than Xbox did, so trying to push the Playstation loyalists thing with sales that are barely higher than those of the 360 is stretching it. If anything, you've proved how much the Xbox fanbase are loyalists over the Playstation fanbase. Xbox has 16% of the sales that the PS2 does. We'll give it the benefit of the doubt and say 25% of the sales when the PS3 launched. Your launch figures the 360 has 75% of the sales of the PS3. So that means Microsoft has 300% more loyalists than Sony does.

I disagree. This site was full of psoters claiming 3, 4 and 5 to 1 in sales ratios, domination, wiping the floor with etc etc. it was common place. The we had silly polls from around the web where it was 9 to 1 and people immediately translated this to sales and declared it a walkover before they even hit the street. Please dont try and deny this happened. Its not that long ago. |
well that sounds like you should easily be able to produce 1 link to back-up said claim. only those with at least 100 posts please.

thought as much. ...not easy to back-up a revisionists view on history.

Yes if MS continued with DRM it would have been a lot worse... they changed it because they were getting screwed.. it probably was 4:1 or higher,... not sure what you are getting at... it would have been domination. It wasnt that long ago, you are right, but your argument that Sony were not wiping the floor is very weak.. MS changed because their pre-orders were shite.. I don't think anyone can argue that.
Even now I can see perhaps it going down to say 2:1, thats still a massive difference in sales numbers if it keeps like that.
Sony did have a core group who were prepared to buy the console at launch, I certainly wasnt one of them. This gen what with power/cost and launching at the same time, there is no doubt that Sony is in the stronger position. I dont mean for the first three months but in terms of opening up and increasing the gap over time. Sony have fixed the main issues that prevented their console doing well to begin with. I think the landscape is going to be different this time around.
| kowenicki said: You know all that is ridiculous, but you said it anyway. The numbers are the numbers. Spin them all you want. The ps3 had a better launch by 30% than the 360 despite an horrendous price and desperate launch line up. The 360 was first out. The PS3 had the Wii and 360 to compete with, a high price and still beat the 360 by 600k in that 3 month launch period. |
I know it was ridiculous, but you stating what you did is as well. You've got to expect the Playstation 3 to sell more with as many sales as the PS2 had. The PS3 beating the 360 in sales after a large disadvantage it's going to more than likely beat the Xbox One. But you did post that the only reason the PS4 is going to have so many sales at launch is because of all the loyalists. I just took what you said and used it on the 360.
Also not 30%. What I said was correct. PS3 had a better launch than the 360 by 25%. 1.8m and 2.4m are both divisible by .6. That's 3/4. So 75%. If PS3 had 100% of the sales, 360 had 75% of those sales.

Like this gen showed? ''Jumping in early'' was the only reason Xbox stayed competitive for as long as it did. |
That's not really accurate. Vociferous and loyal fans were the ONLY reason the PS3 didn't cease to exist. Do you remember the first 18 months of the PS3's life? It was the most expensive. It's biggest early titles were mostly delayed for long periods (i.e. GT5, KZ2) or terrible disappointments (i.e. Lair, Haze). All Multiplats were superior on the 360, and PSN was a pale shadow of Xbox Live. While the 360 had more early adopters, the fact that literally EVERY gamer didn't go 360 first was due solely to Sony's loyal fanbase. Sony more than made up that ground as the generation continued - no question. But let's face it, if the PS4 hadn't been riding a wave of loyalty, it would have been left adrift.
