as opposed to totally "free" games on PSN + ?

at least in the model i am seeing there is a fee plus you have to buy the game.

Who knows... we shall see.

PSN + = old games (most of the profit already done from those games, barely any revenue lost)

X1 share = any freaking games (''Hey bob you got the new call of justice?'', '' yes timmy and I will share it for free with all my hommies''. Resulting in a shit load of revenue lost, compagnies going brankrupt, and gamers forced to play the sh... good games on Nintendo platforms)

you said it... wonder how it will work on PS4 for the first year or so?

hint: bundled games, indie games, first party games made for that purpose (cheap to make) or they'll take the lost on the first few games unlike the X1 which will throw away new games all gen. anyway I don't want to derail the thread no more jaywood might bitch about it. Enjoy your day

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

"Despite the changes not being very different to how things are today with the Xbox 360, Microsoft says it still wants to bring the improved digital sharing features, that it has retreated from, to the Xbox One in time. "We are completely committed to the digital vision we laid out, and we plan and intend to deliver all the things we said before," Microsoft's Yusuf Mehdi tells us. Mehdi explains that Microsoft wants to and "can do it," but it's seeking feedback before any future changes are made. "You're going to see more of the things that we talked about with digital," he confirms, including a Family Sharing feature that Microsoft previously revealed as an option to share digital content with family members regardless of console or location. Mehdi says Microsoft still has "creative pricing models" for games, and trial games on their list for post-launch. For now, Microsoft is clearly approaching any potential changes with caution to avoid a backlash over policy changes that have left consumers confused by its Xbox One launch so far."

No actual time frame on this article, but Microsoft interview said around spring at EB Expo 2013.

Not to be "that guy" but the family share model will never come back...ever, without some extremely creative pricing model involved. (Read: expensive)

MS is not going to give 10 people access to a game for a single paid purchase. Third parties would boycott, and every game would be a gamble at making profit. In all liklihood, the best explanation there is for the linked 'announcement', is that they're using "potential" to sell the system.

They made no guarantee, no time frame, no specifics, and are hiding behind a throw-away excuse of "we don't want to confuse anyone". If they really wanted to bring back family share, and nothing else, they could do it for digital, and they should announce IMMEDIATELY. The 10 person family share was a HUGE deal. Fuck leaving customers confused. Such a feature needs to be confirmed NOW.

But that won't happen. The only explanation is that it never will without all of the drm that came with it, plus some. You could argue that maybe MS hasn't announced because they don't "need it as a feature" yet, but preorders and fucking giving away a huge franchise game (fifa) would beg to differ.

A little bit of a pooh this, I prefer having activated consoles. OTOH my nephew's PS3 got stolen and it was one on which my account was activated. Stupid thing was I couldn't unactivate the PS3 remotely, it has to be done on the console itself, which of course was impossible since it was stolen. Stupidly thought out policy that one Sony.

You do realize you can remotely whipe Sony consoles online?  You have to do them all at once, but it's not hard to switch the consoles back to active.

@OP

This works out better for me.  There's quite a few times when I wanted to just login play games on another PS3 and then not care if I don't login again.  But I couldn't' do that since the two PS3 slots were taken my two at home.

Wait....I could share digital games on my PS3?

Huh.

Anyway, this is the status quo for digital content, period, so who cares? DRM is expected with digital content. It's PHYSICAL DRM that people had issue with.

As we reported last night, Knack is now available to pre-order through the SEN Store, and if you look further into that – in the description – you’ll notice a bit of small print regarding how many accounts you can play the game on.

"One-time license fee for play on purchasing account’s designated, primary PS4™ system and other PS4™ systems when signed in with purchasing account."

So that means you can’t share the game with your friends or family members, as you were able to on PS3, at least not unless you want them using your account to play the game, but you will be able to play the game on any PS4, just as long as you’re signed into your main account before you do so.

Essentially then, you’ll only have one system able to play the game on all accounts, rather than the current two you have with PS3, which was recently reduced from five. It’s actually quite similar to how the Xbox 360 currently works in this regard.

It makes a lot of sense, though if you’re planning to buy two or three PS4s for different family members, then you might have to rethink things when it comes to sharing – you’ll all have to use the same account to play these games.

What do you think? It seems that this new system is great in certain ways – as you’ll be able to play your games on any PS4 – but also a hinderance if you’re planning to have multiple PS4s in your household.

Just a correction there. That was 2 years ago.

I have to apologize to the community. Its people like me who abused the system Sony had on the PS3 that forced them to make these changes.

Even when they knocked down the number of PS3 you can share with. You just need to deactivate the account on one console and activate it on another and share the games/add-ons that way.

I must confess me and my buddies saved a lot of money this way. There was even a popular Forum that we go to, dedicated for account sharing. ^^;;

All sins can be forgiven. All you need to do is forward some money to my personal PayPal account and you'll be on your way..

Isn't this to be expected?

For reference on my 360 I can download to two machines: The system it was originally downloaded to, and the main system I play it on. Theres a loophole of sorts that ANY can play the game on the system the original game was downloaded on, but if you play using other gamertags MS frowns upon it, and I have even heard of people getting banned for playing the same digital copy on both consoles (though rare) so It's not exactly a risk I would take.

You can always re-download the title to any other system if your system breaks. You can always play a copy at a friends house if your signed into your profile and they would be required to purchase the title once your signed out.

It's just that simple.

Makes sense...

I've always wondered how the 360 handled it exactly. I have two 360s. One in the bedroom that I use as the Master console. The one in the livingroom is the secondary. I've always thought that no matter what console you originally download to, the Master console will always hold the rights. Which would mean no online checks needed.
