Forums - Gaming - JRPG Fans I Need Some Advice

i heard mistwalker wants to make a rpg on the wiiu , so i think a sequel to : the last story is a real possibility of happening. might not see if till 2015 though, or maybe they will remaster the last story and xenoblade for the wiiu as well. i would like that, i would buy them both again in a sec.

Dragon's Dogma, no other JRPG comes close.

Dragons dogma hardly qualifies as a JRPG. It a competely different kind of RPG more akin to open world dungeon crawler with loads of micro management and light on story.

I dont think the average jrpg fan that expects a story heavy and character heavy game would be pleased with DD.

It is a JRPG but its a different. Just because its not like the others with big eyed anime characters and spikey hair does not mean its not. Its not light on story but rather non linear and more open. Its an evolution thats been wanted for years and its the best I have seen this generation.

Dragon's Dogma isn't a JRPG...

At least not the definition that JRPG holds in the gaming community.

It is in a literal way a role-playing game from Japan but not part of the 'JRPG' genre.

And besides its more action/hack and slash gameplay takes it away from a JRPG.

It's not because it features some RPG elements that the game is automatically in the RPG genre.

Yes, it is. Like I said, its a different kind and just because its not like the others does not mean its not a jrpg.

Did you overlook everything I said? -.-

Yes it is a JRPG as in it's a RPG (then again..) made in Japan but not a 'JRPG' as a genre. 'JRPG' as a genre could be defined as a RPG influenced by the Japanese culture. And Japanese culture takes root from the kawaii industry. That's what you called "big eyed anime characters and spikey hair".

And neither of these links proved me anything rofl

As I posted in my reply, this article gives you a good idea of what's a JPRG and how they are defined:

It's like saying Monster Hunter is a JRPG. That's like nails on a chalkboard.

well why do WRPG's get grouped similarly, but JRPG's don't Skyrim and Mass Effect or dragon age are just as different as Dragon's Dogma and Final Fantasy? WHY WHY WHY WHY :).

I don't think Skyrim and Dragon Age are as different as Dragon's Dogma and Final Fantasy...

But I get your point.

Both genres are broken in their definition anyway.

Am i the only one who didnt enjoy ni no kuni at all? I mean the story and charachters were as childish as it gets..I couldnt get into it..It felt like playing a choir.. The battles were.. interesting, though i prefer final fantasy's battle system.. The final boss wasnt that difficult for me.. i lvled up everything to 99 level ,using the toko tokos..

Nah, but buddy HATED it because of the same things you said.  He quite playing.  Would give it to me (and someone stole his games, so he only has like 3) but I don't have that system.

Like me, we both love Miazaki, so he was quite disappointed that he hated it.  He tends to hate many things though; he is good at that.  He hated Zelda Twilight Princess too and quite playing that.  But when he does like something, it's usually really good.  Like Red Dead Redemption, Borderlands 2 and (finally, after years of thinking it was a 'brainless shooter' Halo (Anniversary).

@KingdomHeartsFan

Don't hate me, but aren't you missing Unfished Swan?  It would be high on my list.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.
