I would say if many things go right for it the Vita can manage as a niche system with solid base of support in Japan.

I do think it will be Sony's last dedicated hand held though.

Fine, then we'll see it for 15 more years. ^_^

To an extent that could be sort of correct. The PSP long life in Japan shows that if Vita does not have a successor it could continue to truck along and have software support for years and years to come as it is likely will be an affordable and still decently powerful hand heldin five years.

I don't see it making a comeback in the next year. Most people that want a dedicated handheld will go for a 3DS, and just about everyone that wants a multi-purposed device will get (already have) a smartphone. I have a PSP that I bought and enjoyed for a while but it became redundant once I had a smartphone. I was also jealous of those who had a DS and could play fun games like NSMB. When a platform only has about 15% of the market and shrinking, it's in a bad state and I don't see any game, price cut or other promotion that can turn that around.

I see the future of Sony handhelds to be in the Xperia line of phones. I have a Z and I love it. If an Xperia Vita were available, I would take a long look at it.

The Vita will suceed in Japan. Some multi-plat games already outsell their PS3 counterparts. With Vita TV it might become viable in the west aswell, we shall see.

But, if you make a poll asking: Blood! or No blood! You know what the average videogame forum visitor will say. Doom is the bread of the day. People learned nothing from yelling doomed at the 3DS. Theres no backlash in the internet afterall.

But vita tv is a different system, it's sales can't be added to vita's.

Hm. Let's see. The system is called vita and it plays vita games. Yup, completely different.

3ds is called ds and plays ds games, should we add their sales?

The main purpose of VitaTV and the portable Vita is playing Vita games. PS1 games, PSP games, watching movies, playing music, streaming from a PS4 and so on are all secondary functions.

The main purpose of a 3DS, 3DS XL and 2DS is playing 3DS games. DS games are one of the secondary functions.

The main purpose of a WiiU is playing WiiU games. Wii games are one of the secondary functions.

The main purpose of a PS3 is playing PS3 games. PS2 and PS1 games are secondary functions.

Vita is a portable device, vita tv is a streaming machine that let's you play some games on your tv with a dualshock 1.3/1.4. no touchscreen, no buttons, no camera... therefore many vita titles are not even compatible with it. again, it's a streaming machine compatible with SOME vita games, as well as ps and other systems.

Terrible comparison.

The 3ds was announced as the successor of ds. VitaTv was not. Psp go was not a successor and it didn't play most psp games. The psvita can play all the VitaTv games, i.e. there will be no VitaTv only games that are VitaTv exclusive. Pretty sure the ds can't play 3ds games. If VitaTv had improved hardware that would make new games unplayable for psvita, you'd have a point, but alas.

Feel free to add the sales in any way you like. The rest of us will chose a more logical way.

Slim chances in the West, but in Japan it definitely will

vita steam streams SOME vita games to tv, it doesn't play them. again, no touchscreen, touchpad or buttons = different system.

Oh no it doesn't stream them.

You physically stick the card in and the system plays the game locally.

locally on a television, with a dualshock 1.3, and you can't play any game that requires the touchscreen or touchpad. it's a new system, not a version of the ps vita.

Sony would have to invest a couple of hundred millions dollars into a Vita in order to bring it back to life. They would have to secure a normal version of CoD from Activision, a remake of FF7 from SE, a new chapter of Mass Effect from EA and Elders Scroll or Fallout from Bethesda, some unique MGS game from Konami, maybe a new Ratchet from Insomniac and Borderlands from 2K. Also dont forget about GTA San Fierro stories from Rockstar. That would cost like billion dollars. Sony is bankrupt. They should have released budget PS Phone with two analog sticks instead of high end portable device without games.
