PS4. Right now is practically the worst time to invest in a gaming rig.

It would be comparable to buying a current gen console at the end of its life, just with better graphics.

In PC gaming, it is always the worst time to buy, because there is always a new generation on the horizon that will make the current tech obsolete. For me, the trick is not to worry about it too much, buy a cheaper 1-2 year old card, and invest the savings towards another upgrade in 2 years time.

Yeah but it's the really worst time to buy lol. Consoles have been holding PC games back for YEARS and just now that is changing. This year and the next should have a greater bump in PC hardware than the average year.

I think it will take a couple of years for the console games to catch up with the tech. Certainly the first few titles on PS4 does not seem like anything a 2 year old PC rig can't handle.

PS4 and Xbox One are in the same benchmark as the PC's now. (X86 hardware)

So you can easily see where you're at compared to them.

The PS4 GPU rates at around 4000. As you can see, there are sub $200 cards available on PC that exceeds that comfortably today.

In-fact I think games like Battlefield 4 actually still got down-graded graphically to fit on the PS4, certainly not running at Ultra-levels of graphics that's for sure, which a 4 year old Dual-GPU PC can manage easily enough.

AC4's graphics were really the point I had to ask about the uncanny valley character models.

Still the GPU in PS4 will do much better, since every game will be written with this single card in mind, which will make games look much better than on a similar PC - as it always happens with consoles.

I actually plan to buy both a PS4 and a PC next year, but I probably won't be in a hurry with the PC, as waiting just for 2 months may allow me to save money, while PS4 won't drop in price for quite some time.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

Still X86. Not to mention PC's have low level api's now

That is true to some extend. I had a 7900GTX for a few years (same GPU as PS3) and I found games on my PC to perform about 10% worse (fps wise) than on PS3. To me that was not really a big deal, but I know some people freak out about these things.

Finally someone using his brain !

People tend to forget PC games will never be made like console games due to the single card in mind and that makes a huge difference between current PC and what will be consoles in few years. ( just as huge as difference between 2006 pc games and The Last Of Us /Beyond)

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

I am getting a livingroom PC first, and then in a year or so decide on whether or not to get a PS4, console games are very expensive compared to average PC games, so a console has to have a lot of what I want to justify the expense and the online fees. At launch the PS4 does not have enough to tempt me. There is also a huge variety in game play with PC games that consoles can't easily match. Kerbal Space Program on a console would not work well (maybe with a WiiU gamepad), but is awesome on the PC. The PC has a lot of mid range games both price and production quality which can deliver as good a play experience as many of the AAA games I have played.

If money is an issue, you can start with a chaep pc and upgrade it, If you are going the windows route AMD APUs will give you a console like experience for very little money that later on you can add a discrete graphics card to to get amazing performance. Also if you go intel, the i7 is overkill for a gaming machine, very little bang for your buck, a haswell i5 is a great gaming CPU and reasonably priced. I think an i5/Nvidia GTX 760 combo would make an incredible livingroom PC build and kick 1080p's ass, all at a reasonable price (still more than a PS4 mind you). If you are considering a steamOS box avoid AMD GPUs at the moment, the drivers are not very good (A10-6800 is ok but most are hit and miss). AMD seems to be working to change this, but it will take time. I hear AMD drivers on windows are much better.

Anyway that is why I voted PC.
