All things being equal, the PS4 has a more powerful GPU and should give it a 25% graphics boost. But as we know, all things aren't equal. They aren’t just the same two PC’s with one different part.
Remember the PS2 and the Xbox. The Xbox was more than twice as powerful – and how different did most games look? (Note: that is more than 5+ times the difference in the PS3/X1 GPU's).
As much of their hardware is the same, significant other parts are different – these will have different effects. At E3 we learned that developers were having trouble with frame rate on one console. Many on the internet just assumed it was the Xbox One. This got repeated around like a yellow cake rumor in a bar – with everyone referring to each other in a circle. And what we have seen now, this could have been a huge mistake. A number of games on the Xbox One are looking very good.
We know there are some important differences not only in the hardware, but also more specifically the software that runs the hardware. There will be differences. It is a challenge to make for complicated hardware, software easy to develop for – kind of like how a duck looks all calm above the water, and you see it peddling like crazy underneath.
Differences are starting to show up. But I think it’s a bit too early to call a victory. We only about 50 something more days, then we will get to compare them directly.
