Forums - Sales - UK: Tesco reduce Nintendo shelf space to nearly nothing

I have no idea what's going on in the UK and europe in general but they hate Nintendo. Idk if it's Nintendo doing something wrong over there or if it's a cultural thing. My cousin lives in Morocco, right south of europe so it's basically the same and says that everyone over there are just a bunch of ignorant wannabe hardcore who are afraid of looking like babies if they buy Nintendo. (his words)

Remember Europe is "The High Class of the World", they can't be seen using Nintendo kiddy games. Don't worry, they followed suit with the Wii and DS, they just need to see that everyone else is playing on those systems. Like always.

I guess this is why.

I love "I guess this is why". If we add all the Nintendo sales together we get 2803K, comparable to PS (4100K), and more than half of 360.

I don't get 3DS, rest is obvious tho.

At 300K difference, I have a hard time seeing it. But likely you're right in the trends these numbers hint at, where the Nintendo 7th gen software sales are trending downwards while the others are trending upwards or level.

Another thing that might explain it is that I've found that most of the time game-only retailers promote Nintendo software less in general, even in Nintendo's peak periods. I think this is mostly because Nintendo's games sell hugely on a few titles rather than on a selection of titles (as compared to xbox and ps). It also doesn't have the same buzz or the same marketting power for selling other things as non-Nintendo software does. I think that Nintendo software also sells more easily at bigger chains in general (stores that do more than just gaming).

My two cents for what they're worth.

How in 2013 has the PS2 sold 13,000 NEW games?

Fifa.

Hooray, finally a thread where I can post my pictures!

Anyway, in my local Tesco, store space for Nintendo hasn't been reduced yet.  At least, they still have a DS section and a Wii section.  And in those Wii and DS sections, you can find an occassional 3DS and Wii-U game.  I'll add that there are more 3DS games than there are Wii-U games (I counted about 10+ for 3DS).

These are the only Wii-U games they have (I put them altogether to make a nicer picture):

And just in case anyone was wondering, I zoomed in on the sticker so you could read it.  Kinda funny that we're like what, 9 months after launch, and they still have to stick this on every game (although, putting them in the same section really isn't helping):

Also, my Tesco completely got rid of their Vita games section the other day.  There are 0 now.  They do, however, still sell Vita consoles and memory cards, which I found kinda weird.  I understand "excess stock" and all that, but they clearly had excess stock of Vita games yet they got rid of it.

I don't know about the UK, but Nintendo just doesn't have a lot of presence in a lot of eastern European countries, at least from what I've read.   Especially compared to Sony who have been pushing the PlayStation brand in these countries for years.

Indeed, Sony's marketting push in Europe during the PS and PS2 eras was astounding. I'm not sure about the PS3 era since I haven't been to Europe in a while, but that kind of effort doesn't fade away quickly regardless.

That is one of the points of Sony that I respect most. They pushed games into a different sphere of acceptance, mostly thanks to simulation games (GT, and EA's Fifa) and excellent marketting back in the day.
