Forums - Nintendo Discussion - WiiU hardware sales seem to have gotten a pretty good boost with the price cut + WW HD bundle.

The price cut is not going to have a meaningful impact. It was announced on the 28 of August yet no drop in sales occurred.

Huh?  It's not just a price cut.  It's also alongside a new bundle with a Zelda game, as well as Zelda being on the eShop.   It will for sure increase hardware sales.  I don't even think there's a question about it.

Of course it has things besides the price cut, but this limited data shows the announcement of the price cut didn't change purchasing habits. You'd think people would wait a week or two and save $50 but Rayman gave a nice bump. WW should definitely give an even nicer bump. Any large increase in Wii U sales would be because of that game though, not the price cut.

Probably about 15,000 for the Wii U. Nobody really likes it as was pretty evident with Nintendo announcing they were offering Wii Fit U and Wii Sports basically for free last week in an attempt to stimulate sales, but the people that liked those have moved on to other things. Nintendo needs to come out with a new more powerful console in 2015 with some new more adult slanting core ips because Wii U is in for a tough time and their old series are starting to feel staid as they did in the Gamecube Era.

horrible suggestion.

Unless, they keep supporting the Wii U too.

Look at Sony. They are the first company in the history of video games to be launching two home consoles at the same time: PS4 and PSVITA.TV. Both devices cater to completely different markets and should be able to coexist perfectly. Why can't Nintendo do similar with three pillars, similar to their DS backup plan?

Release a system way stronger than the 4BONE in a few years that is expensive and geared towards the core. Have it support off TV play with the gamepad. At the same time, get the Wii U down to a much lower price and market it has the traditional family friendly Nintendo device. A rising tide lifts all boats, and this could net the Wii U better lifetime sales.

That sounds exactly like what they're doing now,.

OT: What would be a good, solid weekly number for the Wii U to sell on a weekly basis that would stop the doom talk? Not outstanding or gangbusters, just solid.

120k a week (outside of holidays obviously) that is about 1.5m a quater which is average/alright.

So that would be about 8-10m counting the holidays, I can see that being possible in 2014-2016 then sharp declines for 1-2 years

Yeah, unless Nintendo radically turn it around and get casuals on board even 8 mill a year seems difficult, I'm not sure where those 8m will be coming from ...

Ya we will see what affect Wii Party U, Fit U and Sports Club will have on casuals. They have affordable pricing options so that could help alot.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Lots of Zelda WW bundles sold, not sure about the regular deluxe around me. Nintendo would be wiser to keep printing the "limited edition" bundles because the WW bundle is a great value, and the artbook and game is digital not costing Nintendo much at all really. A lost sale for WW but so much sales potential in other games down the road.

Each Best Buy around me had about 10-15 consoles. Wal-Marts we're 2-4. So that's about 15,000+ sales from Best Buy if they sold, and around 12,000 from Wal-Mart assuming they had a average of 3 consoles for store. Not counting Gamestop and what not I can see a boost of 40,000 if it continues to sell thru this week. Nintendo would be wise to keep the bundle going.

It's just that simple.

No way can I see 40k happening this week. That's around a 300% increase. I'd predict 15K this week and 25k next.

I made a prediction on Tbones thread cant remember what it was but ill stick with that prediction.

Even though I think Nintendo made a big mistake in how they're put this machine together (never bank on a $100 controller if it isn't a total game changer/userbase driver), I don't want the company as a whole to suffer another GameCube, because I think it may lead to Nintendo becoming less and less the company they used to be.

So I hope sales pick up big time now.

IMO if sales still are below Nintendo's expectations by next spring IMO, I think the OS should be tweaked to work better with the Wiimote and the price should be dropped to $199.99 with a Wiimote + Wii Sports Club bundle being standard right around the time Mario Kart 8 launches. Perhaps a hardware redesign in general.

You gotta ride out the tablet pad a bit longer, but if its just not being accepted by consumers, then it's better to move it aside as an optional thing (like the Balance Board) rather than letting the ship sink entirely.

I don't know if the Wii U is ever going to be a "successful" console, the goal now has to be to salvage as much of this mess as possible.

I hope the Zelda bundle can at least start to boost sales for more than just 1-2 weeks, there needs to be sustained rise in the baseline of the machine now.
