Forums - Nintendo - in which order are the Metroid games played?

Go in order! Here it's the order!
-Metroid Zero Mission
-Metroid 2
-Super Metroid
-Metroid Fusion
-Metroid Prime
-Metroid Prime 2
-Metroid Prime 3
And if you want you can try Metroid Other M! I heard the plot was bad but the gameplay was good enough!

For me its the opposite :)  I found the story/insight quite interesting but the gameplay was shallow and repetitive and the forced use of the first person perspective was just dumb (because you could not move just look ZZZZzzzzzzz)    and the controls are horrible too.

It's not supposed to be a FPS.....

Yes it is.  A platforming FPS.  While the main portion of the game is first person platforming and exploring, shooting still plays a big role in the game, so regardless what fans want to try and sell it as, a large portion of the gameplay is a poorly developed FPS.

I forgot about Metroid Prime Hunters which was even more of a FPS.  Also not very good.

Want to know first person platformers done right?  Half Life is one and it came out several years before Metroid Prime did.  Mirror's Edge is another such game.  It doesn't have the exploration to where you can go back to areas you've previously been, but itdoes include exploration within each level and does a hell of a better job with its gameplay than Metroid does.  When using guns against enemies, something you almost never do on Mirror's Edge, it much better than on Metroid Prime.

When it was released in 2003, Nintendo said it was a first person adventure and not an FPS.  With Metroid Prime 2, they tried to draw attention from Halo, though.  They had some crazy internet ad campaign.

I can't agree with much of this post. Metroid Prime was clearly designed to be an action/adventure game first and foremost, and that extends to every facet of its design - level structure, enemy encounters, gunplay, controls... it wasn't anything like other FPS at the time it was released. If we are to judge it by how good of an action/adventure game it is, then I think we can safely call it an ingenious first-person take on the genre. Or... shall we retroactively label Super Metroid a "side-scrolling shooter", ignoring the many gameplay elements which set it apart, and criticize how it controls compared to, say, Contra III?

Also, Half-Life's platforming doesn't compare to Metroid Prime, and especially not Prime 2. :P And Mirror's Edge is a different beast altogether! It has far more in common with the Prince of Persia style of action/adventure than anything else.

A game is the sum of all its parts, especially those that are more frequently used.  So regardless what the games genre is called, any gameplay in the game that is frequently used deserves critique.

Metroid: Zero Mission
Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime 2
Metroid Prime 3
Metroid 2
Super Metroid
METROID OTHER M ------> You totally should play this game, it´s awesome!! At least judge it for yourself!!
Metroid Fusion

Opinion. I found Mirror's Edge to be nigh-unplayable. Couldn't wrap my mind around those insane controls at all.

Metroid Prime, meanwhile, is sublime.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Yeah I was really looking forward to it because I loved the Prime series and just because of the Prime series I tried Super Metroid and also Fusion and  loved both.

But other M is really strange  I always thought "man when is this game going to start".  It was interesting to see how Samus is as a human compared to the bounty hunter etc but the gameplay never worked for me it also lacked atmosphere.

And forcing people to play a 3D game like this with the sideways Wiimote  without nunchuck support!  and forcing us to occasionally look around in first person mode to look for hidden stuff without being able to move/avoid enemy fire  also prevented the game from having classic controller support.

It was some really odd game.

Yeah.  Everything we all say on here is going to be opinion.

The controls for Mirror's Edge didn't bother me though.  They pretty much made it so the buttons you used were the L and R buttons and the other buttons were rarely used.  This way you could keep your fingers on the sticks.
