I've never quit gaming in over 30 years. I missed out on the Gamecube era (which I now really regret, should have been there when Nintendo needed me the most!), but if I'm not console gaming then I'm PC gaming at least. Yes, I've thought of completely quitting, but never managed to stop for any length of time.

Not really. Gaming isn't even my "main" hobby anymore. Every now and then I'll get a game that sucks me in so much and steals so much of my time that I begin to think I should just give it away and be done with it, but then I remember that I'd just be doing something else equally as unproductive to pass the time.

When I don't game for a while I do begin to feel better about myself though, less detached, more social etc. Oddly it's the same feeling I get when I don't masturbate for like 4 days. What is that?

No, I have already found ways to cram my time playing games with my daily life.

I basically quit console gaming during the majority of the 6th generation.

After the mind-blowing 5th Gen, the 6th Gen was to me very lackluster. When the Dreamcast was discontinued and the GameCube turned out to be a disappointment almost right away that was basically it for me. When you already had a DreamCast, the PS2 wasn't that appealing anymore because at a glance it looked the same. On top of that the GameBoy Advance never really caught on with me. To this day I only have 5 games for the system, 3 of which are remakes.

So I turned to the PC, with my consoles and handhelds being used only sporadically. Luckily, to me the era of PC games that came out during the 6th Gen turned out to be some of the best games ever. Almost all of my most favorite PC games hail from these years. With the PS3 and the Wii though I got back into console gaming, and later the DS rekindled my fondness of handhelds and the tables have turned again. Now I barely touch my PC anymore.

Going into the 8th Gen, the 3DS is by far the strongest participant in my opinion. I have the WiiU at least for Zelda (which was basically all I did console-wise in the 6th Gen), but sadly neither the PS4 nor the XBOX One have been compelling for me. I can see myself quitting someday though if my interest in new games continues to decline, then I'll just stick to all my old games anyway. I hope that will change otherwise it'll be like the early 2000's all over again...

No, not really stopping, but what I have seen on the Bone and PS4 when it comes to bigger (I hate the term ...AAA games) games doesn´t fill me with confindence...at all.

My 3DS and WiiU will get plenty of use and the Vita is next on my to buy list...but the AAA-side of the industry seems to head straight intp the abyss :/ ...and I hope mobile gaming dies a quick and painful death (there are only so many Square Enix announcements for shitty smartphone games that one can witness without losing his mind)

No, and the idea is just as strange to me as quitting reading. Games are just another form of media, but the idea of quitting an entire medium seems pretty unique to gaming. You rarely hear of people swearing off of watching movies or listening to music (unless they've just seen a Miley Cyrus video).

I can understand that some people who are stuck in a compulsion loop with one particular game that essentially replaces their lives (a.k.a. WoW Syndrome), though. Some years back Jonathan Blow gave an interesting keynote address about how "unethical" that form of game design is. But I think this kind of addiction is usually the symptom of a larger problem, like general unhappiness with one's life.

I didn't really think about leaving gaming entirely, but it has become something that i do once every 2 or 3 days rather  than playing till my eyes pop out like when I was younger

Bought all of em. Plat the first one (naturally), loved the second and I still play the last one on hard. I still have to get first and second year games though, but I did a lot of catching up.
