Forums - Gaming - So PS4 Is Basically Going To Win This Gen, Right?

Nintendo WiiU could be a problem if it gets hot, but the xbox brand being big in two country just can't beat a global brand like the Playstation.

You don't call a race before it even starts, I don't care how fast someone ran in qualifying.

Anyway, who cares. I think the pie will be split close enough to even to not really matter.

If Sony doesn't get there shite together and seal Titanfall for sometime shortly after the XBO release, that will cause some serious problems for them. Titanfall will be such a system seller for XBO that it would be worth it for Sony to put one of their own teams in charge of porting it to ps4.

Sony also has to stop laying down and dying when it comes to advertising/deals in US and Europe. MS is doing what it always does: getting deals and advertising itself with the biggest third party games--COD, BF4, Titanfall, Fifa--to make XBO feel like the coolest console. Still, after 10 yrs, Sony still hasn't learned MS's tendencies enough to get one step ahead of them for once. These 4 games/deals alone will be major gamechangers if Sony doesn't step in and disrupt them somehow (committing to advertising these games with ps4 logo at the end, making a Fifa bundle in Europe, sealing Titanfall, etc.)

Their launch lineup is a tad weak I think, but will be offset quickly by having so much developer support. Is there any way the PS4 doesn't win this gen worldwide? I mean sure, MS will probably give them all they can handle in the US, but globally ... looks like they have this gen on cruise control.

I think you summed it up quite well, Soundwave. I agree 100%. The only rabbits MS can pull out of the hat at this point are a $100 price cut (very painful but they've got truckloads of cash that I bet they'd be willing to burn in an effort to not lose market share to Sony)  or some major exclusive coup, like NFL Sunday Ticket only on Xbox.

On that last point....stay tuned (no pun intended). I note that Sunday Ticket is no longer available on PS3 for the upcoming season and recent tv ads tout Xbox One as "the offical console of the NFL".  This would be a huge feather in MS's cap if they can pull it off. The NFL loves money and MS has plently of it to throw around.  But on the other hand, any such NFL deal will only really help Xbox sales in North America.

I certainly think they will. Although the competition will do good as well.

Don't count your chickens before they're hatched.

Common thinking back in 2006 was PS3 was sure to dominate the next generation, even with a $599 price tag, that MS would do 'okay' and that Wii would be Nintendo's last system as it was doomed for failure.

In hindsight clearly that was way off base, but at the time all the analysts and 'experts' and fanboys predicted it.

From a short-sighted viewpoint, PS4 has this one in the bag, but it's not about launch price or launch line-ups.

Having Kinect on every XB1 will allow for gameplay that while possible (with Move) won't be supported on PS4. Currently that's limited to some voice commands but as the generation goes we might see some amazing uses of Kinect with subtle face or finger recognition affecting gameplay in major 'core' games and sports titles. If it's compelling (ie: fun) it'll make the XB1 version the definitive version for these games. That's a game changer.

Nintendo's early launch may have been wasted on one hand, but on the other, it gives them a chance to ditch the misguided WiiU quickly and launch another system within this gen. If they go back to their 'blue ocean' strategy they can come back with both a system on par with PS4/XB1 (or a little better) and gameplay mechanics that they can't match - along with mass market accessibility (like Wii) for a reasonable price. Despite a late launch, if it has both Wii's mass appeal and ease of porting all games it'll be a must have system for all and will be able to overtake the lead of PS4/XB1 (similar to Wii overtaking 360's year lead)

The other factor here is the growth of mobile gaming and now Android/iOS home systems. This cannot be ignored as this market already dwarfs the handheld market and is probably close to par with home consoles if not bigger - and growing. While they can't match the graphics and processing power of PS4 at the start of the gen, they will certainly have surpassed it by the end of the gen. While it's split up among so many players it's hard to gauge, but if someone (probably Google/Apple themselves) gets it 'right' and becomes the go to system for home Android/iOS games, it could also beat out PS4 by the end of the gen. Or even if no one system does it, mobile/home based Android/iOS system might erode the console market away making PS4 the winner of a lost cause.

Nintendo is not going to eliminate the Wii U early. The system will get its 5 years at the least.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I think that Sony has done a good job of addressing the issues that the PS3 suffered from its early years, namely its relatively late launch (compared to Microsoft), its price, and the early difficulty that many developers encountered with the cell (one of the famous critics was Gabe Newell). This time around, Sony announced before Microsoft (both the PS4's reveal, as well as the actual release date), priced the PS4 much more competitively, and have continually stressed that the console is easy to develop for (utilizing small, independent developers to exemplify how easy it is to create content for the system).

With that said, it's far too early to call a victor because I wouldn't count Nintendo or Microsoft out, not by a long shot.

your statement would sound a lot less ridiculous if the exact oposite hadn't happened with the 3ds.

"No pricecut or game or both has increased sales that much" : pricecut + mario 3d land and MK7 = huge 3ds sales.

"The industry pretty much rejected the Wii U and thats all but written in stone" : saying the industry rejected (past form, as in no possible recovery) a system that's not even a year old, especially when the only reason of low sales is lack of software.

I think you need to check 3DS lows and highs again. Not only did it never reach these lows it isnt even selling enough to be able to outpace and reach a market leader. In another 2 and a half years (5 year life span) i expect it to be about 50mil. Considering the Wii U will most likely have 5 years and is lower then the 3ds by a fairl hefty margin i dont expect Wii U to reach 50Mil let alone 3Ds levels like you suggest. 6Months later and nintendo still isnt where they expected theyd be. I stand by my statement. No more than 50mil for Wii U LT and no less than 50Mil for ps4 LTt this point in time

okay dude, sony never has to do a thing but nintendo needs a huge hit in order to suceed. it's not like games matter, right?

No, Nintendo need a lot of hits, which are they aren't going to get without huge 3rd party support.

What makes you think Sony aren't going to "do a thing".

"What makes you think Sony aren't going to "do a thing"".

really?really?really?really?really?really?really?really?

you can't possibly have understood that, you must be trolling. I'll draw for you regardless:

his stance: sony NEVER HAS TO DO A THING (=/= won't do a thing) to win, victory is always theirs. But nintendo only has a chance if they get lucky and score a big hit.

do you understand now how nonsensical that way of thinking is?

Calm down. Where did he say Sony "never has to do a thing"? You're just putting words in his mouth at this point.

I still think the PS4 will be in last place this gen. Nintendo will be first. Microsoft second. Once January hits, the games will begin, and the Sony hasn't been practicing very well.

Uhm what? To both things. Care to elaborate on your reasoning behind the big 3 end of the gen standings?

And what does "Sony hasn't been practicing very well" even mean?

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!
